Physical Exam Books

What's everyone's favorite physical assessment book and why?

Hello,

I had used two physical examination books for my schooling. The first book, is called Physical Examination & Health assessment by Carolyn Jarvis. It has a lot of great pictures that one can see throughout the book. The reading is easy and sometimes difficult for the reader to follow. Not a lot of good examples or written examples for soap notes and the methods to develp an assessment. However, it is supported for the online evolve and that site is awesome. I would reccommend the site.

The second book is called "Physicial Examination & Health Assessment" by Bates. I really enjoy the book and the pictures are not as clear and graphic as the first one. However, it also was supported by evolve. I like bates because the reading is easy.

There you go Sgt. Zenman.....

LOL.

I use Bates..........nice pics and easy to understand. Its the recommended text here on most NP courses.....

it now lives in my consulting room.. and gets dragged out when i have to do an examination I havent done for a while- like a neuro exam!! dont do those that often!

I personally like Bates better, but my former school uses Mosby. I think things were a little clearer in Bates, so I bought an updated version and used it.

I looked at Jarvis; it seems pretty comprehensive.

I never did like Bates. I ordered this one with online student access and a 2 hr dvd of a physical exam.

The best physical exam book I have used and still use today is DeGowin and DeGowin's 'Diagnostic Examination', very old but incredibly detailed and amazingly usefull. I found it in a med school bookstore.
