Good Day!
I am a RN in the Philippines and graduated at 2010. had 5 years exp and transfered to nz.
Currently, i am working here in New Zealand as a NZRN in theatre and got my PR this year but my boyfriend who lived in CA wants me to go there. can anyone help me how to start
1. i checked the cgfns and stated that english exam is not required but when i checked the CA BON they need the toefl. do i need to do it? even i am working here in NZ although i am still using PH passport.
2.SSN. i checked the CA BON and i don't have that but can i use the TIN i used here in NZ?
3. they said that CA is really difficult and advised me to take another state and process the endorsement but there is no gurantee
4. i am a bit confused with the steps as my friend told me that i can process the nclex first before ielts but it stated in the CA BON that toefl is one of the requirements so which should i do first?

You require a US SSN to apply to California and they will accept a US ITIN so if you file US taxes then you may have one. Suggest getting registration sorted with another state first. Also be aware of the issues many nurses are facing with California especially Philippine nurses and concurrence issues. Plenty already written about this
Hello!
i read some forum that although you applied for another state and when you applied to transfer to CA there is still a chance to take up the medsurg and ob and there is no guarantee also that you can transfer. do you need to take english exam first before nclex or you can take nclex without the english exam? thank you
Depends if English is part of the requirements. If it is then has to be done before eligibility will be given

You don't need CGFNS or TOEFL to apply here in California as an international nursing graduate for the RN license. You will need to directly apply either via mail or online (Breeze). One requirement for California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) is to submit a Certified English Translation form for the breakdown of your transcript if it's not English. But since the Philippine nursing curriculum is based in English, you don't need that. If your boyfriend lives here in California, he might need to petition you via fiance visa in order for you to come here. Once you're here, you will get the SSN. That is a main requirement here especially in the State of California.
Now, about the "concurrency issues." Yes, most of the Philippine nursing graduates are required to take up courses again. But you won't know that until you apply and get evaluated. There are some who were not required take up these courses. It kinda depends on your analyst. Also, each State or Territory has a website for their board of nursing. You can visit NCSBN's website for the information. There are other States that don't require SSN such as Illinois and New Mexico. Good luck!
