photographic memory ???

Published

today at school, i asked one of my classmates how did she studied, is she had any tricks she could share with me (she has traight A'S) .. the only thing she told me was that she used her photographic memory,,,,, i didnt want to ask anything more because she is kind of mean. But how can you use your photographic memory? i dont understand??? is the first time i heard this ;/

Specializes in i can read really good lol.

my mind kind of works like that, i can remeber exactly what it says on my notes and then i can re write it word for word. it only works when you have to memorize something not with critical thinking, so it helps because ill know what they are talking about but then i have to apply what i remember to answer the question right. not sure how this will help in nursing school, but in other bio classes it worked wonders.

Basically it works as their brain has taken a mental photograph of their notes and they can remember the notes. It works for regurgitation classes and may help during NS if you can photographically remember procedures and think through them critically in your mind I guess.

I'm lucky enough to have a semi-photographic memory. If I'm taking a test and can't come up with the answer quick, I'll close my eyes and I can "see" the book..I can "see" the page the info was on..the side of the page it was on..and usually I can then remember the answer. Or I'll remember that the professor was wearing that blue shirt with those ugly pants and he was walking toward the left side of the room and he said..".....". Or while showing a procedure etc, I can close my eyes and "replay" the event again.

It doesn't help with critical thinking etc, but it does help when you need the info for whatever it is you need to think about.

and its a you have it or you don't kind of thing. You can't learn to have a photographic memory. I've been like this since I was a little girl.

Agree with CT Pixie. You either have it or you don't and most people who have it, have had it since they were very little. It's not a very common thing to have either. Most people have to read over and over things in order to memorize. My best advice, just study the way you need to and don't worry about the rest of the people in your class. We all have things that hinder us in some way. Good luck!
