Phone Interview for NICU!

Published

I'm super excited guys! I'm around 6 months into med surg and applied to the NICU....I'm supposed to receive a call soon for a phone interview to be set up!

Like alot of you here I wanted this quite badly and I'm praying I might get in ... I've always felt that I've done great at in person interviews ...I've done a phone interview twice before but I must admit they're definitely not my favorite and more awkward. .. I really want to sell what experience I have over the phone and I'm hoping the passion and desire for the job shows in my voice too..

Any body ever done a phone interview for NICU? any tips on how to stand out to make it to an in person interview?

I feel like if I can make it to a face to face one I'll really nail it! Just need to get there!

Thanks!

Looks like I will keep applying until I get it!

I didn't get it ...just sucks when there a new grads getting into NICU all across the country and I've been an RN for a year and LPN one year prior. I'll admit only 7 months has been in the hospital, so maybe I'll have better luck after a year or two. But you'd think I'd at least have something going for me. Apparently it's difficult to work for this hospital from what I've been told by locals. (I moved here almost a year ago).

If I just got an IN PERSON interview I KNOW I'd do well!!! It stinks not to get past the stupid phone ...

Plan is to try to apply for peds at the same hospital because though I want NICU, I previously wanted peds, specifically peds oncology...and my passion is just simply children....be it talking kids or neonates ...adult care isn't for me forever. Maybe I can do a transfer easier to NICU later that way while still enjoying working in the children's hospital in the mean time.

Also, I used to question whether or not to get NRP before working in a NICU...well I say at this point it doesn't hurt to get it so I'm going to make that a goal within the oncoming months along with any other resume boosters.

I am definitely let down though .... but I know I've only been an RN for a year so a few years from now I could very well be in NICU. There's hope.... but it still stinks.

I want to do travel nursing ...but I want it to be in NICU...so I'm just anxious to get into my specialty, get experience for a few years and travel....I guess I could do med surg travel but I don't want to spend any more time in m/s then I have to gaining experience in a unit I'm not going to ever return to ....

Ugh. I love my coworkers and feel lucky to work on the m/s floor i work on compared to the horror stories i hear about others! I just know my heart wont fully flourish in nursing until I land a job where I am most passionate. Hopefully the universe will align properly in time.

I am sorry you did not get the job!

I feel your pain. I have been an RN for almost 9 years now and have spent 8 of those trying to get into a NICU without success. I just finished my BSN, so I am hoping that may help. I am going to give it a year of job searching and then maybe forget about nursing and go for my PA! Good luck to you as well!

I hope it works out for you, Annie!!!

Over a year of med surg and I do finally have a nicu interview in person!! Took a couple tries to get past the phone interview or get one of those at all...now I'm finally going to interview face to face and I'm stoked. Just thought I'd update so others reading may remember not to give up. Hoping it goes well ...I'm excited and a little nervous.

I got the job !!! :) so happy
