Phone Interview with DaVita today

Published

Hey all! About a week ago I applied for a Staff RN position with DaVita, I'm a new grad, but the position title said experience required.

I have a weird kind of experience with dialysis, my mom was on home hemodialysis and I also got her on the machine and everyhing.

Anyways, I got an email the day after I applied from DaVita saying they want to do a phone interview, and it's supposed to be today in a few hours.

I'm a bit nervous that they'll be annoyed about my lack of clinical experience with dialysis, but it's not like I had said I had clinical experience with it any where in my cover letter or resume.

Any advice?!

Specializes in Med/Surg, Dialysis.

Well hopefully you did we'll on your interview but personal experience should count for a lot especially taking care of family. Davita is very family oriented so I am sure they will take your experience into account. Good luck!

How did it go? What kind of questions did they ask? Did you get the job?

Be yourself! Explain the situation... Good luck!

If you are walking upright, can keep your eyes open 14 to 18 hours per day, plus be on call when you can't keep your eyes open, they will hire you. That's for an acute unit. Chronic units, you have to be able to run, slide, do 6 things at once, & if you get close to overtime will be sent home. Acutes will let you work 82 hrs/wk & then keep you updated on what pts. didn't like your attitude that week. DaVita owns you. FA's can be managers with business degrees, no nursing experience at all. If you are lucky they at least worked in a dialysis unit somewhere as a tech. It's all about business. Work faster, longer, less help, no backup resources of any kind. New FA's frequently have not read, much less followed any Davita Policy & procedure. Real frustrating if you are trying to do your job right " the Davita way".

Pay is good, government gets most of it in taxes, related to the huge amount of overtime you will get. There are various "money" bonuses? that show up in your bank account for no particular reason. That is sort of nice. It's got to be easier to come in as a new employee VS an acquired employee. Davita is gobbling up dialysis units all over. They call them acquisitions. Employees are "acquired" with the sale. When you are acquired against your will, you have a real big mental block against the huge corporation that did this to you.

The only way to deal with DaVita is to talk to as many people as you can find, & see how many times their jobs were merged into other companies. For example, I've met bank employees who have went through as many as 4 mergers. Mill workers who have been bought & sold multiple times. Once you figure out you are being bought and sold, like a piece if meat, it's a whole lot easier to deal with the situation.

Focus on the patients. Ignore the company as long as your paycheck keeps showing up. The patients need you. Their lives depend on you. The company is a bureaucratic mess. Pry your eyes open. Buy chocolate covered coffee beans. Keep your fingers crossed that Obama care keeps reimbursing for dialysis treatments.
