Phoenix Children's Hospital New Grad Program (GAPP) Summer 2011

Nurses New Nurse

Published

This thread is for anyone applying to the Phoenix Children's Hospital Graduate Advancement Program in Pediatrics (GAPP) which is scheduled to start in July 2011. :nurse:

Has anyone applied or heard anything yet? My application still says HR is reviewing it.

Are there any current or past GAPP graduates out there that can give some advice to us hopeful new grads?!

Good luck to all those applying to this program. The job market is harsh right now for new grads.

Hello

I am scheduled for an interview in the "new tower" on Friday. Can someone who has interviewed given me more information on where in the "new tower" to go?

Thanks

Hi Skier,

Congrats on getting an interview! My interview was in the new building. I parked in the structure next to is on Children's Way off of Thomas. There are arrows and signs pointing you to the lobby from that structure. When you walk in there is a info desk. You will sign in there as a visitor and they should be able to tell you where to go from that point. I just had to wait and the HR rep came to fetch me. Of course they were moving around at the time but I don't think you can go wrong by checking in at the desk in the main lobby. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Congrats iamtheskier on landing an interview! Do you know if your interviewing for med-surg peds or PICU/ED?

Wow, cool, I amtheskier! Is this interview for the GAPP New Grad program, or is it for just a regular position? That's great if they are still interviewing for the GAPP! wildcat, have you heard anything back yet??? We havn't seen you around, so I was hoping you had gotten good news.

Nope. I havnt heard anything either way... Dont know if thats a good or bad sign (I'm kind of thinking that the odds arent in my favor). I emailed the nurse recruiter a week ago and she still has not emailed me back, which is kind of odd because she usually responds within 24 hours. I have kind of given up hope on PCH... Its okay though I know that God has a plan for me and all will work out in the end. :)

I haven't heard anything yet either. The application period ends the 8th so hopefully we'll hear something in the next few weeks! :yeah:

Have ya'll applied anywhere else? I got offered a job in Cali and I declined it because I didn't want to move away from my husband so I can't afford to be picky at this point! I will take anything!

Good luck!

Sorry but, as a RN in California slaving day-to-day filing out apps it angers me to hear that anybody is declining anything. There are so many eager New Grads as myself who have been job searching for over a year now and would give up everything for that position. It baffles  me that you would even apply to a position that was not geographically favorable. Please leave the Cali jobs to Cali RNs ready and willing to jump at the opportunity.

I interviewed for PCH GAPP program on Monday 6/13 at noon. I think I may have seen an interviewee before me and an interviewee in parking lot (difficult to tell between pharmaceutical reps and interviewees :)). My interviewers were very nice and responsive. It is for a med surg position; they said they have openings for various med surg positions d/t expansion. They also told me that the next step was to await a call from HR. I saw above that someone has an interview on Friday. Has anyone heard any other news? Any other interviewees out there? I hope everyone has a great night :coollook:

Why??? I apply to jobs all the time, even if I don't actually want them. I have been doing this for more than 10 years and it has give me an incredible amount of interview practice and I am able to get feedback about the strength of my curriculum vitae. I have been on so many interviews in the past decade that I am no longer nervous about them, and that bodes well for my presentation when I interview for a job I REALLY want! I was once even told that I was the best interviewee that that panel had ever interviewed, so my practice surely paid off!

Seriously, if one is looking for jobs, it can never hurt to just apply to everything you see that might give you good practice. Plus, you never know when a door might open that you really didn't know you even wanted. I think that giving yourself as many options in life is how most suscessful people get ahead.

I can see that you are stressed about your lack of work, but getting angry at other people who have had doors opened is not necessary. Best of luck on your job hunt!

Anyone get a critical care unit offer this week? I interviewed earlier this week. Just wondering if anyone got it!

Hey BeeSupporter,

Someone I know from my program got an offer yesterday for ICU. She also interviewed earlier this week. Were there multiple positions?

Actually, I am a Cali RN who was ready and willing to take the job that was offered to me! I was so happy and honored when they offered me the position... but I am married to an Air Force pilot who got new orders the day I interviewd and was transfered to Phoenix 2 weeks later. I was planning on staying in Cali, which is why I was interviewing there.

I had no control over my husbands new orders, and yes when he got transferred I quickly turned down a job because I was not about to sign a 3 year contract away from him. Since then, everyone in my class has now landed jobs and here I am hoping and praying for anything! Despite being offered a job, I am still in the same boat you are... applying for tons of jobs every single day.

Hello. I was offered a GAPP position for general peds last week. I look forward to meeting all the other GAPP RNs. For those of you who are still persistently applying for RN positions, I encourage you not to give up. I believe the perfect position will come your way......I know easier said than done. It can be very frustrating to apply to various institutions and have then reply to you such as "we have chosen to choose applicants that better match out needs at this time....we continue to encourage you to apply at our institution." My thoughts were, if I did not meet your criteria as new grad/newer grad RN position, which position am I qualified for? CVICU? ER? transplant floor? :). I hope everyone has a great week
