Phlebotomy School REC in Charlotte, North Carolina

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi,

I am hoping to be in nursing school by this fall. I'm currently finishing pre-requisite courses and have applied at local nursing schools and am awaiting decisions.

In the meantime, I was hoping to get into phlebotomy classes and be able to work part-time through nursing school as a phlebotomist. I am having difficulty finding a reputable school in Charlotte, NC that isn't already full. There is an excellent one at Carolinas College of Health Sciences, but it is full right now.

I went to visit Thomas Healthcare and was not very impressed by their location, attitude, cleanliness, etc. I was very impressed with American Academy - but they cannot find enough clinical sites for their next semester because Carolinas College of Health Sciences has most of them already.

If anyone has any information or recommendations, I would GREATLY appreciate it! I would like to get into training ASAP.

Thanks to all!

cpcc, central piedmont community college has a great program. you will have to apply early though, because these programs do fill up quickly.

are you currently in nursing school at CPCC? I'm trying to compare the options available in Charlotte - there are many!

Totally OT, but have you applied to CCHS's nursing program? I have... ugh, the wait is killing me!

Yes, I did! And I'm with you - the wait is long!!! I wish we could find out something sooner! I think the website says notifications will be towards the end of March - YIKES!!!! Did you apply anywhere else?

No, I haven't applied anywhere else because the other schools either require CNA registry (to even apply) which I don't have yet and/or completed pre-reqs which I also don't have yet. Also, I NEED to do the 80% loan thing so CCHS & Mercy are my only options. I have put all my eggs in the CCHS basket, but I have faith that everything will work out right. At the information session, they said not to hold our breaths for March.... expect April.

Which information session did you go to? Have you applied at Mercy? I just took the TEAS last week and have no idea what score is required for Mercy and which of the scores they look at. I do know that CPCC looks at the Math and Reading Comp and overall score... Fortunately, I did the best in those 2 sections - the science killed me - the life science was the worst. I am not going to take the test again, though. It is what it is! I got an overall 86.5, but 94th percentile nationally - my math was 93.5 and reading comp was 92.5. I'm hoping they are acceptable scores for Mercy. We shall see.
