Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in new york

Published

I wasn't going to do this, but oh well, maybe it will make some part of my brain feel better or what not. Anyway

Has anyone applied or been apcepted to Phillips Beth Isreal School of Nursing in New York? I know of one other person who applied i think, but not sure if anyone else that hangs out here did.

It would be nice to start a support thread or something, and hopefully this won't get burried in cyber space.

Hi Everyone,

Today is the today my interviewer told me to email her about my acceptance. The only problem is that I changed my purse and left her card home before coming to work. I do not remember her name or email address. Should I just call the school or just wait until I get home to email her?

Hi Keanni,

Do you remember who you had your interview with? if it was Ms. Stern I can let you know what her email address is. Otherwise, I would call the school, mention that you do not have the person's email address. I am sure that they will either give you the email address or connect you to the person so you can find out the decision.

I was able to call and found out over the phone.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need that email address.

Good Luck!

Thanks studygirl. I had the interview with Linda Fabrizio. Bayley sent me her email address. I sent her an email this morning, so I will wait until this afternoon to get an answer. If not I will just call the school. I hope I am in........we always have to play this waiting game.....lol

It is a true blessing to have found this board and after reading the BI posts from the beginning of last year to now, I learned a great deal of information and I do feel better preparing myself. I have three choices for nursing schools next year, NYC city tech (which I am student and I am just taking two pre-reqs and then I will apply) BI and maybe Farmingdale. I am so nervous yet I most nervous about the NLN because my friend took it and failed twice so that terrified me. But I noticed that everyone on this board had obtained fairly decent grades so I am not too sure what too think. But I would love to chat with anyone who is applying to any nursing program and I am looking to get to know people/ make new friends so we can pretty much go through the process together.

Please feel free to send me a note. I know majority of people got in and congrats to everyone. I am really happy for you guys and I would love to get to know you as well.

Hey Lucy Ball,

I am taking pre reqs at BMCC this semester (A&P1, A&P2, Micro, Stats). I told them I wanted to do sciences, so they matriculated me in sciences. When I went for my advisement I was adamant that I knew what classes I wanted to take, and a few different profs referred me various steps up the food chain until the head of the department acquiesced and let me take whatever I wanted.

My advice is to stick to the community colleges or City Tech (that is where I got my first Bachelor's) and do the pre-reqs on the cheap. PBISON does not require pre-reqs, but their classes are $320 a credit vs the (approx) $180 they will be if you get them out of the way beforehand. The PBISOn interviewer also recommended that I take the CLEP Psych exam, and take Developmental psych at BMCC or through the SUNY online classes this summer. Not all schools accept CLEP (College board exams), I know Columbia does not, but others like Pace do. That is a nice cheap option, CLEP exams are only $60 or so.

I think that taking the pre reqs before you commit to nursing school is also a good way to make sure this is really what you want to do. I came out of a career in entertainment, and wasn't 100% sure, but this semester has been the most fun ever and I know for sure now that this is exactly what I want to do. Remember though, you do get what you pay for. My classes at BMCC have been fine, good even. I am working very hard, but I have a heavy load and an A average. I don't think I am an A student, and I think there are things they are glossing over to simplify life. That's fine, I'm sure we are well prepared for any nursing program, besides I have heard that the A&P and Micro classes at PBISON are killer and at the extreme opposite end of the spectrum so really I should just be happy with my good grades and shut up already.

good luck, feel free to ask if you have any other questions (it is a roller coaster this switching careers!)

OMG, I totally understand you! I am in the process of doing! Please let me know what stage are in (are you applying to nursing school or you already a nursing student or an RN). I know I have more than a year ahead of me to apply but I am so NERVOUS!!!!!!! I am currently taking three course loads (BIO, A&P1 and Math). It would've been two classes but they told me I needed a bio background before I can take A&P. I am going to be attending NYC City tech in the summer. Also, after really thinking about it, I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket with City tech (as I heard that its very hard to get into the nursing program) so besides applying to the latter, I am going to apply to PBISON and Farmingdale. Maybe I should apply to LICHON for the sake of it. I don't know why but I'm freaking out as we speak just because of this NLN, I don't know why I'm letting it get to me, lol. I should be worried more about my classes(actually, I am) because I know I have to get As...

I'm sorry I'm freaking out like this, lol. I know its early....

First, I just want to thank everyone who has written in this forum so far. Thanks for sharing your stories. Good luck to all of you!

Here's my situation. Please let me know if you've heard of anyone with this kind of "package":

Scores: My NLN scores are very good: 155 which was 99%

My weakest area was science, I got like 12 wrong, but Ithat was still 98%

That was the end of the good news.

Grades: weak. Long, historical pattern of poor grades. From High School to the pre-reqs I took last year (10 years). I made stupid choices like taking A/P at Hunter when I was too busy to study. I have a 2.8 GPA, but not so much more. (2.9?)

Worse: I consistantly get A's in English and Poli Sci and B's-D's in Science. Even my good grades count against me.

Essay: I don't know. I didn't want it to seem too "literary". My essay was direct and sincere. I answered all their questions. Don't know.

Recommendations: Toughy. I asked two people who volunteer with me. I hope that was good enough.

I had a million transcripts to get in. I emailed to confirm that they were received. I didn't hear that they weren't. I shoud have called, I know.

Beth Israel really impresed me. I took the NLN there last year-- I was so impressed! The students were warm and friendly. I was thrilled to see an exhibition on Elizabeth Bing. The whole environment just seemed so great. I could imagine the you would really learn to be an excellent nurse there. Oh well.

Any reactions? Anyone know anyone who has a simliar record as I do? (pref. one who was accepted!)

Best of luck to everyone!

I know that the NLN score seems like how they initially screen applicants so the fact that you have a very high score is definitely good. I think the essay counts alot too since when I had my interview there, many of the questions and things we talked about were based around that. I don't really know of any similar situations as I only just applied there this year myself but it still seems like you should have a good shot. I think they realize that people make mistakes or go through hard times that can affect their GPA so just try and stay positive. Good luck and keep us updated on how things go for you! :nuke:
