Phillips Beth Israel 2013 Applicants

Published

In the process of putting together my application for PBISN 2013. Who else is applying? I'm curious to hear from current students and recent grads--what was your background? Your NLN scores/GPA? Thoughts on the program?

Good luck everyone!

Anybody currently in the ATOP program? (3 day schedule) Pros? Cons? Would you recommend it over the traditional program? Thanks!

Specializes in surgical, geriatrics.

I got my acceptance for the ATOP program on Tuesday but unfortunately will not be attending since I was accepted into Downstate and getting my BSN is a bigger priority for me right now. I'm actually a little sad that I'm not going to PBISON - everyone I know who went there has such wonderful things to say about the program and it seems like it truly is wonderful and supportive. Best of luck to all of you!

Congrats!!! I need my bsn as well. I got accepted to the ATOP program as well. Didnt apply to many schools as I would of hoped for so pbisn it is!

nylady07 :I am going to attend the regular, two years program.

Is the schedule of the regular courses between 8:00-17:00?? or what if it is a nursing course...do you do like nights at the hospital?

Ebinbrooklyn- congrats! Can I ask what your application looked like when you applied? GPA? Extra curricula? Essay topic?

3.5 gpa, BS in speech path/audiology, four years as CNA two as MA, four years volunteering in ER, did prereqs at Hunter 153 on NLN. Essay was on lack of primary care in NYC and community health nursing.

If you can do the ATOP program it seems like a very manageable schedule--I originally planned to do that and work/do a MPH at the same time. During my interview she said that some students are able to work full time and do the program. Seems like a good way to avoid debt.

Yes. You will never go beyond 1700 in the Trad program. You will only have night clinical during pathway to practice during your last semester if that is what you choose (or end up with).

1st year: Clinical is one day a week from 8-12. ( Second half of second semester is 2 days a week). Labs are 9-12 one day a week and lectures are from 1:30-3:30 -4. one day a week.

My Schedule was as follows: Clinicals Monday 8-12. Lab Tues 9-12 and Lecture Tues and Wed 1:30-3:30 -4.

Summer is Psych and its from the Last week in April until June 12. That is Either Mon-Wed or Tues-Thurs depending on which clinical site you choose. Clinical are 2 days a week and so are lectures. Same time.

Second year: Clinical for 2 days 8-4 and lecture 2 days from 9-12.

Wow, you're very accomplished. Congrats..

I took them all at my local cc. I didn't want to have any other courses besides nursing. It was much cheaper as well.

My advice.. take all the science courses before you attend. My classmates have a hard time with taking AP I and II and Micro at the same time as the nursing classes due to the timing of exams and the professor testing on VERY minute (and unrealistic) details.

Also, take nutrition as well just because the professor gives sort of ridiculous assignments.
