Phillips Beth Israel Applicants

Published

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone has applied to the Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in NYC for the coming year? I am looking to get into their part-time evening program that would begin in Spring 2011. I'm taking the NLN this Wed and really nervous about it, really just the verbal part....

Osuro I believe you are correct. Also when I called last week to find out if I was accepted or not I spoke to some girl because MG was also out, and she asked me if I was called for an interview. I said no and she said if I didnt get a phone call for an interview then I should get a letter in the mail with the decision. I think its pretty obvious at this point

Well, you don't need to be Angela Landsbury to figure out what's going on.... Sorry in advance.

I can rest assured that I did EVERYTHING in my power to be very proactive in making my desire to attend BI known with their administration. I guess us getting in wasn't a road paved for us...

hi everyone i was really surprised to see this thread pop up in front of my face because i also applied here. granted i applied late and after a day of no sleep, reading your comments are scarring me :crying2:. i do agree with those of you who are annoyed because i tried calling them literally all morning and until their offices closed and i couldn't even get a hold of anyone! i called their general number, dialed 0, called both admissions numbers....NOTHING. its like they don't even care! well all negatives aside...do they offer a spring entrance?

springs only for the evening prog, and there is one application deadline, so regardless it passed already.

i would say that when MG isnt there the phone never gets answered. lol so i would keep trying when she is back...or try emailing her. I dont think you should lose hope on the interview thing. In the past they have set up interviews past the may 1st deadline...i agree they should just tell you yes or no haha - but honestly i think it's the same with every school no matter where. one of my coworkers is STILL waiting on a decision from another school in MD who's had her application since dec! and she needs to give notice to another school may 1st. she called that school she's waiting on and they told her they're working as fast as they can. So it's not only beth israel it's other places as well - just to give everyone some positive feelings =)

To reduce anxiety, look at your NLN scores and check out the Composite AD score. If its higher than 60 you might be considered. But then again theres a 1000 applicants so of course the committee will look at the 99-80 percentile scores. But those people dont necessarily get in, they also look at their past transcripts and their personality in general.

I know its very annoying and makes you very anxious. I was there last year.. and this isnt the hard part. If you cant wait a few days or months then youre not ready for nursing. Trust me, its a lot harder.

Theres only been less than 15 people who got interviewed and those people are 90% in but if they said something really bad in the interview then the committee moves on and interviews another person. You have to realize theres really only 75 seats for the 2 year traditional. About 25 for ATOP, 25 for Evening and 25 for the three year. It is really competitive.

They cant tell you that you got rejected on the phone because THAT is unprofessional. You would never fire someone on the phone would you? Or maybe even break up with someone.. that is just low.

For all the aspiring nurses out there, keep your head up and strong. If this is really the path for you then you will get it. Goodluck guysss. See you next fall! :yeah:

Thanks so much for the post NurseRica. You've really made me feel better. The waiting is very hard. I'm not a patient person and I have to have everything planned so me not knowing where I'm going to be in the fall is very difficult for me. I'm trying to relax. One more week until May 1st and hopefully by then I will hear something. Thanks again. Good luck in the program.

I applied to Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing last year, and I requested that my file be reactivated for this year. I also retook the NLN but honestly, I know I won't be accepted because I got the same percentile from last year (67, was very bad in the Math section). Was told that decisions are made by an Admissions Committee composed of deans and teachers. They scrutinize everything, not only grades but how strong one's portfolio is. And there are no jobs in the tri-state area with the hospitals closing...

I Applied to pbison i took the exam april 14th and just got my test scores back. I think I did really poorly i got a composite score of 96 and percentile composite of 46. the math part really killed me...any advise what I should do from here on out? Anyone know if there is a NLN exam prep course in nyc?

Hi Boris,

I'm an applicant also, and to be perfectly honest with you a 46 isn't that great of a score. I think you need to score at least at 50 to be considered, but the good news is you can retake in 6 months. What were your studying tools?

Hi All! Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Kate. I can't believe what I missed out on by not finding these boards earlier! I'm new here so this may have already been asked. I have an interview with PBISON coming up and I'm not sure what to wear. I want to make a good impression but, since I've lost weight, all of the suits I own are way to big. I'm not likely to wear a suit again but do you think I should just deal with it and buy a new one? Do you think I can wear nice slacks with a blouse and a simple black cardigan? I can't imagine coming this far only to blow it because I under/overestimated what to wear. :)

Hi Kem!

Congrats on the interview and the weight loss, I'm sooo jealous (of both)! I think the bottom line is to just look polished- a wrap dress or a black skirt/white shirt and cardigan will be fine, a suit isn't necessary. Just keep the colors neutral and look modern but conservative (small earrings, tamed hair, natural makeup, manicured well-groomed nails). You want your inner personality to shine and not for the interviewer to be distracted by anything.

When were you called for an interview? And if you don't mind- what's your GPA and NLN score? Not to be intrusive, but I've been sitting in limbo and just needed to know where I'm fitting in on the scale of what BI considers desirable candidates. I tried to keep positive, but it's looking more likely that I'll be receiving a rejection letter rather than a phone call and wanted to know if there's any hope left for me!

Good luck and keep us posted!
