Phillips Beth Israel Applicants

Published

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone has applied to the Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in NYC for the coming year? I am looking to get into their part-time evening program that would begin in Spring 2011. I'm taking the NLN this Wed and really nervous about it, really just the verbal part....

Not in the program yet. I will apply after this semester is over but if I get accepted to Beth Israel I won't even bother. I want to go there so bad I could cry. I'm sure you feel the same way.

I know how you feel about wanting to get it over with. I felt the same way but if they do cancel the test for tomorrow just look at it as an extra few days to study. :)

I had no ide that was what ATOP was. I don't know which I should do I guess I will call the school tomorrow and ask. I don't have ALL the pre-reqs but I do have the following:

English 1 Rhetoric

English 2 Literature

Psychology 1

Childhood Development

Statistics

Anatomy & Physiology 1

Anatomy and Physiology 2

Philosophy

Would I still be able to apply for ATOP even though I don't have them all done? Maybe if I hustle I'll finish the rest over the summer, not sure yet

I'm in that same boat. Only good thing is that if we apply to the traditional full time we will only take 2 classes at a time instead of 3 or 4. Could be a blessing. I kinda doubt that I'm doing micro this summer. It is very intense and I would have to do it at night from 6-11 Mon-Fri. which doesn't work with my husband's schedule. All I want is to get in. I'll take whatever program they offer me.:)

Hi Kuklara and Starlette! Long time no hear. I'm still waiting for my test results. I called Beth Israel on Fri and they said I should get them this week. I hope so. The waiting is really killing me. Starlette, do you have your test this weekend?

Where do you guys currently go to school?

Hi jayzelena! I am supposed to be taking the test this Saturday 730am! sooo early, but oh well. I really just want to get it over and done with. I live in NJ so I took most of my pre-reqs at my local community college bc it's so much cheaper. I get reimbursed from work but it's just easier and better to go to a cheaper school. When did you take the exam? Seems like it's taking forever for the results to come back. Was it the paper test?

Hey Starlette / Jayzelena

I actually took my test back in the end of January. I have not heard anything from the school yet because I JUST mailed my app on Saturday. Come to think of it I am going to call right now to see if they received it. I really hope I get is anywhere right now.

I was working full time and doing pre-reqs at night and my plan was to apply for an evening program for NEXT year while I work but it turned out the beginning of January I got laid off so instead of waiting another year I applied in January to Farmingdale, Nassau Community, Phillips Beth Israel, and St. Pauls School of Nursing.

Right now I attend Farmingdale and have taken all my pre-reqs there. I have most of them done. I really hope I get in somewhere! I didnt do so good on the NLN ENtrance exam because I literally had 3 days to study, I JUST made it for Frmingdales deadline and I had to set up the entrance exam rather quick. I ended up getting a composite score of 121 and a percentile grade of 82. I screwed up pretty bad on the science. I was expecting alot of Anatomy but the entire science section was physics. If I get accepted to Beth Israel the only thing I would have to figure out is the commute coming from Queens....but we'll see what happens....I just really want to get in! I'll let you guys know if I hear anything I hope you will do the same...and GOOD LUCK!

Starlette,

I'm sending good luck vibes your way for Saturday! You'll do great! Keep us posted!

Kuklara,

Your composite score and percentile score isn't bad at all! Last year there was a girl that was accepted to BI with a composite of 121 also and she was in the 86th percentile so keep that head up!! I wish I knew what I got on mine, still waiting! I took the paper test and when I called the NLN on Wednesday of last week they didn't even grade it yet! BI told me I would receive it this week but nothing yet. Let's hope I get them tomorrow.

Aahhh the anticipation!!! lol...Kuklara I agree with jayzelena you should worry too much about your NLN score! It definitely isn't horrible. I wish you both the best of luck! I am still working on that essay, I think a bit too much...How long were both of yours? I know it's suppsoed to be at least 250 words but I've gone over (which is OK when I asked one of the deans)....

Kuklara did you hear back from the other schools yet?

Jayzelena have you looked at other schools?

I went to BMCC today to get information on the nursing program because what they have online is so confusing. The people there are not as nice as they are at PBI...But I think I'll have that as my backup??? I'm not too sure of any other programs that will work with me to work full time since I actually live in NJ and want to go to school in NY....

GOOD LUCK!!!! =)

My essay was a page and a half, however many words that comes out to I'm not so sure. I personanilzed it since they said they wanted to know about the person behind the grades. I actually liked my essay. I thought it gave a very clear image of the type of person I have become because of different experiences in my life. Don't go too crazy on your essay Starlette. I shouldn't talk. I kept changing things for about 2 weeks until I finally said enough and just mailed it.:lol2:

Well, I still haven't received my scores yet! As you can guess I am not happy at all. Maybe I'll call PBI to see if they received a copy. If it wasn't for my classes keeping me distracted I wouldn't have any hair left.

So Starlette...what did you think about the test?

hey jayzelena! Sorry it's been so long! I thought the test was pretty hard...I mean if I knew my physics I wouldve been ok i guess, but I thought the verbal was hard too. math was not really that bad, one of the easier sections. i'm so nervous. did you ever get your scores? i sure hope so bc that wouldve been ridiculous if you havent gotten them by now! I am not the greatest writer so that's why I was stressing out so much about the personal statement. I sent out my application today so it's all downhill from here!!! Hopefully it won't take as long to get my NLN scores...

caffeinerx, all i can say about the school is that when i went to the open house and listened to all the deans and students had to say i was very impressed. I really would love to go to this school. With your NLN grade I'm sure if you applied you would get in!

Hey Starlette - I agree with you I found the English portion to be rediculous! I found the math part OK but the Science I was not prepared for either because I studied so mucu Anatomy and the entire Science was mostly Physics! Good luck though I hope you did great and hope you get accepted! I wait everyday for the mail man! I am so anxious waiting for a response!
