Hi there!! I'm from the Philippines and currently holding a 4 year visa sponsored by a hospital in Sydney area. My problem is with the Registration Board of NSW. I need to undergo an assessment program in the College of Nursing in Burwood. The tuition fee for this program is A$3200 which is beyond my resources. My agency there told me they can't do about it. The hospital told me they don't have facilities to address this problem but they assured me that once I'm registered they will hire me. That is now my problem. Is there a way I can raise this money through loans or salary deductions? Is anybody here knew if I can work on different jobs while pursuing the program to support myself. I'm a holder of a short stay visa subclass 457. valid until 2007. I hope somebody can give me advise or help if necessary. Thank you very much in advance!!!

Have you tried registering with another nursing council, like qld?? I dont know if they have the same requirements or assesments... if they have a different or cheaper way then u could get you registration through them and transfer it to NSW
Thanks for the reply Graynurse, I have not tried applying from other nursing boards there in Australia. I will try to visit their website. I assumed then that since they came from the same country they have the same requirements and process. I will try to look at it now. Thanks again!!!

Any of the nurses that I knew from Thailand that went down there, went thru an agency and had to attend school for six months before they could be granted a license. They paid about $8,000US to the agency. They were able to work twenty hours per week which gave them money to live on, but no more than that.........
If you were petitioned by the hospital, it will be your responsibility to cover the training time, if that wasn't included in your contract.
Thanks for your insight Suzanne!! Graynurse,I looked at Qd.website the cost is almost the same A$850/module and I need 4 modules to complete the proccess.

dear mike
hello kabayan. if you're sponsored by nsw health department enquire if you are eligible for NSW Health Department funded position (see http://www.nursing.aust.edu.au/ and http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/ for more details). Also enquire if you can work as assistant in nursing or patient care attendant (wage rate $15/hr, higher on casual rate) in hospitals while doing your bridging/adaptation course. Also check nsw nursing council (http://www.nursesreg.nsw.gov.au/) for current info. hope this helps. good luck

How much do bridging courses cost and how long do they take.
Some posts have said 7000 $ and 7 weeks.
Some have said 6 months
Any ideas?

This thread is over 2 years old and no indication that they have been back to the site for a while. Have you tried approaching a few institutions to see what their bridging costs are?
