Philippine nurse coming to US

Published

I wasn't sure which thread to put this under so I made a new one. My cousin is currently a RN in the phillippines. She's passed the filipino boards and is working in a hospital in Makati. She wants to come to the US and passed the english test and some other test that i think tests medical knowledge i'm not sure of the name. She's currently in talks with some agency. I just wanted to ask some advice, her mother told me that the agency will be taking about half of her first years salary which sounds like robbery to me. Can anyone tell me how they managed to get into the US. Thanks

Hi. Welcome to allnurses.com. I'd like to recommend that you 1st read Suzanne's 'Primer' on top (Sticky).

50% is really highway robbery. She can apply for the NCLEX, English Exams, and VisaScreen herself.

Please read the diff. threads here on where to start. 1st Step is to choose w/c State she would like to live and work and take it from there.

After reading the stickies and threads here in the Int'l don't hesitate to ask ff-up questions.

BTW, when did she passed the local boards?

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

hi and welcome

Tell her to run as fast as she can from them, and report them to the US Embassy in Manila as well.

That is utterly ridiculous, and I can also promise that they are not even a licensed recruiter for the US.........what they are charging is 100% illegal.

Talking about taking advantage of someone.........and what is she supposed to live in? If they take 1/2, and then there are still US taxes, it would be worse than living anywhere. Way below poverty. No way to live on that in the US.

Hi Mara,

Maybe it's best to advice your cousin to passed all the needed exams (NCLEX-RN, TOEFL or IELTS) before applying a job in the US. If he/she finished these exams, he/she can directly apply in the US without any agency.
