Philadelphia Hiring Freeze

Published

So I graduated school in South Carolina in May and am currently waiting for the PA Nursing Board to transfer my RN license from SC to PA. I do however, have a Temporary Practice Permit. I was wondering if any other new grads are struggling with finding a job right now as well. I graduated with a 4.0 and have hospital experience, so I'm not sure what's going on here and if it's because of COVID? I'm extremely frustrated and am curious about other's situations.

It's covid and it's pretty much everywhere.

Thank you! Hopefully something happens soon before I'm basically homeless

Personally, ANY job right now is what you likely need. Not necessarily as a nurse- but something to pay the rent while you look for a nursing position.

Phila area is very top-heavy with multiple nsg schools within the area and nearby NJ & DE. And that's just nsg school grads. There's also experienced nurses ALL competing for the same positions.

I assume you have a BSN? Philly hospitals typically only look at those with a BSN. Cities like Philadelphia can be pretty tough for new grads considering how many nursing schools we have churning out new nurses.  I received no bites on my resume when trying to move here from NC until I had 2+ years of verifiable RN experience.

I realize that you're looking at PA, but NJ is just 3 bridges over the river!

Cross-licensing might be time consuming, but it might be worth the effort to consider SE NJ for employment.

Yeah I have my BSN. Yikes! I have an interview with Thomas Jefferson this week so I'm hoping it works out

I've been having such a hard time finding a job since my offer from CHOP was rescinded due to COVID.

OMG!! The exact same thing happened to me with CHOP. Have you had any luck getting interviews?

I’m going to private message you!
