FIRST and IMPORTANT ADVICE: Finish your contract.

I think the final interview was between you and the Nursing Director correct? Green carpeted office, right? With the exception of some hospitals, you are among the better paid RNs in Manila. How far do you live from PHC?

A Nice Dorm

they have a nice dorm there, fully airconditioned (centralized) atop the MAB building but the waiting list is a long one and you have to be documented that you live far from PHC to be able to avail of the qualification. (While Manila is always sweltering under the heat 90% of the time, you will be always wearing a sweater - hows that for an edge?)

Your Residents doctors

Unlike other hospitals, the MD Residents of PHC are at most considered to be Attending MDs since they should finish their Internal Med Residency or Surgical Residency before going into Cardio or Peds Cardio or CT Surgery at PHC.

You will find that the PHC RNs are the closest knit Community. we even have several websites.

Since September is not far away, let me know how your orientation was. Send a Private Message to me. Who will be orienting you. Who is the head of the Dept of Nursing Ed and how is your orientation. We will keep this Private. I think It is better that I keep my experiences private not public knowledge because of the people who might prefer their ID to remain private.

The training is very good. If you are a non employee RN, the Post grad course is called Post Grad. But if you are an employee, the Course is called Staff Dev (short for Staff Development) because it also trains you within the confines of the Hospital's Policies and Procedures.

From EKGs single lead to 12 lead EKG interpretation. In Peds they also teach 18 lead EKG placement. Also the ICU protocols, like weaning from a vent, Blood gas interpretation, Cardiac diseases how they are correlated to their EKGs(12 lead) and the signs and symptoms of each disease as related to their Pathophysiology, Swans (Swan Ganz) , Wedge Pressures, and other Central Lines etc.

FLOW

They will start you off as Nurse I. You will start in the Non crit areas in either Adult or Pediatric Cardiology. Unless you go to the OR.

Next when the nursing admin of your unit sees you are getting better, and more mature in your profession they will put you up for the Staff Dev course. It used to be a month and a half which will include rotations in all ICU units. You will not pay for anything. Then they will ask you what you ICU unit you prefer to go and work(MICU, IMCU, SICU, RR, PICU, ER) - you will not always get what you want though.

The RR is like any Cardiovascular ICU but it is not limited to Adults alone. You will also be taking care of peds that have come from surgery. The Stepdown unit of the RR is SICU and then the patient goes to the floors. Although not all patients in SICU came from the RR.

The MICU is like any Coronary Care Unit. Usually patients that have had PTCAs and have special problems that require EP studies are also placed in MICU.

IMCU is like the general ICU. Sometimes well to do patient that can afford but whose ailment are non cardiac in nature like CVA can go to IMCU.

PICU patients are those that have a cardiac condition that require intensive monitoring too. Like patients who have patent ductus, or

TOF.

THE ER is a great place to work. You work up close with the doctors.

At most no attendings MDs here, all cardiac fellows. There is No continuity of care here. No day is the same. You could be quiet and then you will find yourself experiencing a simultaneous code blue or sometimes three at the same time.

Now if you have any questions you can PM me.

I hope I gave you a bird's eye view of how the personnel are channeled through the years of work. which is why,I advice you to finish your contract. By then you will have had all the experience.

When you start working at the ICU Complex, you become NURSE II.

Higher pay, more responsibilities.

Hope this helps

Hi!!! Im also interested to work at Phil. Heart Ctr. I have a question though, when did you apply at PHC? I heard it will take time for you to get in. Those who are undergoing panel interview right now are those who took the exams last October. That's almost a year backlog.

Thanks

wow! its really amazing how they train their nurses! i think i am fortunate enough for being hired..thanks for the info's u have shared..i has only 1 question? what did you mean in" unless you go to the OR"? how long usually b4 a nurse1 became nurse2..was their shifting really 12hrs?

I'm also would like to work there, seems like a very good experience. But may I know how long would the contract be? Would the hiring process be a tedious one? What about the exams or interviews, would it be grueling? Do they accept applicants even without any hosp. experience yet? Sorry for the many questions, I just want to know enough. Thanks in advance!

hi everyone...congrats LIEU for landing a job at PHC. i've always dream of being a part of a prestigious hospital here in our country, most specially because of the comprehensive training and experience that we will gain to become a competent nurse. i would also want to know their requirements. do they have age limit, is it required that you have work experience from other hospitals to be considered? do they accept second coursers???

thanks, i hope you can spare some of your time in answering our queries...
