PHCC LPN Applicants/ New Students

Published

I was just wondering if there were any PHCC applicants out there just waiting for June/July, and what were your NET scores like? I guess I am trying to get a feel for what the "competition" is like?

Is anybody a new student at PHCC either North or West Campus? What are your feelings about the program? Any regrets or thinking you would have rather gone somewhere else?

I just took the NET on Friday and am debating if I need to retest; got a 97 on math and 73 on comp and 85 on written expression. I put in the app for North and West just to see if I can get on the alternate list; I doubt I will be getting in this go around since it is my first time applying but gotta start somewhere.

Cannot wait to hear from some locals, Liz

I took the test today and recieved a 100 on Math, 88 on Comp, and 83 on Written. I put in my application for Brooksville's day program. Aughhhhh!!! I hate the suspense. There are 36 seats but a majority of them are taken up by people from previous years' wait lists. I really really want to get in but, who knows. What was your composite final score? Mine was a 94. I think we both did really good but all it takes is a few people to do better. Good luck!!-Amy

I also am awaiting letters from PHCC. I applied to both the RN and LPN for West campus. Hopefully I'll be getting a "big" envelope for at least one of the programs. I'm incredibly nervous, so nervous, I almost don't want to know if I got accepted. :uhoh3: The people in the career center weren't very uplifting, after I took the net. After receiving my scores, I asked if my scores were competitive. I received a 76 on the reading comprehension (those questions were like riddles ), and I was told they were looking for scores in the high eighties. I felt so defeated, and discouraged when I heard this. My overall net average is a 85. I was also told that RN nursing board doesn't consider the net math scores of new applicants, which only hurts my chances more. Does anyone know if they look at the NET score average, when reviewing lpn applicants, or do they look at separate scores? If I'm not mistaken, the only criteria needed for the lpn program are net scores... I'll be devastated if I don't get into one of the programs.

Liz, what did you mean when you said "I doubt I will be getting in this go around since it is my first time applying". Does PHCC give priority to people that have applied before?...

I am also waiting for a letter from PHCC. I applied to the fall RN program. Does anyone know when the letters will go out? I recieved a letter in the mail a couple weeks ago telling me they found my application to be complete and they would be submitting it to the selection committee. The waiting is making me crazy. Is it true they only look at your NET reading score? Because I got an 88 on the reading but only a 80 on the math. My pre-req GPA is a 3.8. I hope thats enough. Good luck to all. Hope to see you there this fall! :)

Hello dianad54. From my understanding, it takes them a while to go over all of the applications. I was told by student services to expect the letters in the middle of June. But I was told to expect the letters sooner then that, by a friend that applied in a previous semester.

In regaurds to the reading net score. I received that infornation from a PHCC advisor through e-mail. To quote the advisor exactly, she stated " The RN net score that is considered is the "reading" along with the gpa for prerequisites. The math, reading and writing scores are used in PN program." This is highly disappointing in my situation, because I didn't do too hot on the reading portion of the exam. I know that their looking for scores in the high eighties... But it sounds like you have a great chance of getting in. Best of luck to you, I hope you get in for this fall semester. :D

Thanks for the info! Keeping my fingers crossed.:wink2: You should try taking the NET again, I took it twice and brought my score and when I took it the reading passages were exactly the same as the first time which helped because I remembered some of them. I had a study book that helped as well. Good luck!

Have any of you noticed if your major has been changed in WISE?

I am also waiting to hear from PHCC. I was told sometime in the beginning of June. Regarding WISE, I have never been told by others that it will show acceptance before receiving a letter. I hope not, because I just checked my WISE account and it did not show nursing!

Good luck to you all. I hope to be there with you this fall! 17_1_10.gif

Sometime this afternoon my major was changed from awaiting/Nursing-generic to Associate in Arts. :( I'm assuming that means I was not accepted but perhaps I'm reading to much into it. I think someone posted awhile back that you are not officially in the program until you return a form that comes with your acceptance letter. Maybe there is still hope.

Good luck to everyone!

I just checked wise and my major hasn't changed. I hope that doesn't mean I didn't get in. I wonder if we can call or e-mail to find out the status of our applications...

I'm so nervous, I practically bit off all of my fingernails.

hello all,

You had me wondering about WISE so I went on and mine says "unknown" for major in about three different places. Is there a specific place you are looking to see that major change???

I too am biting my fingernails waiting. This week is probably it from what I hear. I keep waiting for the maillady to arrive so I can make that sprint to the mailbox. Aughhhhh!!!!!!!

Good luck everyone!

Angel

Hi guys,

I just called PHCC and they explained that your awaiting nursing major was changed because that would prohibit any financial aid to be received because it isn't a real major. That is why it was changed. This has no reflection on whether or not you are getting into program.

In addition, they said letters are not going out until mid june so we still have a while.
