Pharmacology is tough, it is learning about all the drugs, what they do, what they target in the body, how they work, adverse effects etc. etc.

That is my favorite class thus far. I love the science part of it as opposed to my intro to nursing practice class....ugh. So much ambiguity and "pick the most right answers"....i hate it.
So does a&p prepare me for this class?
Is it just memorizing info? or balancing equations?
Yea, I would say it does build off of a lot of information from A&P.
For example, a lot of pharmacology has to do with neurotransmitters and receptors. Skeletal muscle neurons at the neuromuscular junction (post ganglionic) emit what kind of neurotransmitter? Acetylecholine. What is the receptor type? Nicotinic-M. What happens when this receptor is activated? It activates an action potential at the muscle cell.
However, ACh is also used for ALL autonomic preganglionic synapses. Etc etc...
It is a lot of information, but it isn't like calculus where it's really conceptually difficult to learn. You just need to put in the time...keep your head in the books and pay attention in lecture.
my god, that sounds tough!
LOL He barely scratched the surface of it too!
damn... I hope I can manage this.. Im really bad at a&p.. I just 'got by' i didnt really focus on it..

I find the subject very interesting. I find the tests to be absolutely brutal
Others have done it and so can you. Have confidence in yourselves everyone.
I didn't do great in A&P and I took it 4-5 years prior to starting nursing school, I am doing fine so far in Pharm. you just need to take it upon yourself to refresh yourself on the things you had trouble with. Their are lots of animated videos on youtube on the different systems.
If you tell yourself it's going to be to hard and you won't make it, that is what will happen, if you tell yourself you can do it and be proactive, you will make it.
Nursing school, IMO truly is mind over matter, a test of endurance!
