pharmacology at SCC?

Published

Hello,

I was accepted to start nursing school at St. Charles Community College for Fall 2011. From what the nursing counselor has told me, there is an optional pharmacology course that can be taken in the summer. The thing is, it is only offered online....I have taken an online course before and didn't feel I got much out of it.

My question is- Have any of you taken this online pharm course? Do you suggest taking it?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated :)

Thank you,

Nichole

OMG I was just accepted to Saint Charles Community College for this fall too! When did you find out? When did you take that Dosage Calculation test? I was stressed out so much over that. Congrats and maybe we'll have class together! I don't think i'll take that pharmacology class though.

Specializes in Tele/PCU/ICU/Stepdown/HH Case Management.

i graduated from the sccc program in 2009. i never took the pharm class though. if you feel you do not get much from online courses, then i would be hesitant to take that class.

@ ydbush30- I took my dosage test feb 14th. I found out a few days later.... Congrats to you too. Are you taking any classes there now? yea- I don't know about the pharm class...thinking about it still..

@ paramedical- no i'm not taking classes there now. I don't have any classes to take. I only have to take the nursing courses. I'm wondering when they are sending out the official letters that tell you everything that you need to do. I'm excited but very nervous.

My letter said they will send the official letter this month some time. Registration for fall 2011 is April 4th, so surely before then we wil receive our packet with everything we need to do.

I agree- excited but also nervous...

What kind of schedule are you hoping to have? I work full-time so I hope i can still continue to do so.

not completely sure about schedule yet. May be day clinicals and afternoon/evening classes and labs or visa versa. I make my own schedule for work but it will still be a bit of a juggling act. What kind of schedule do you work? I noticed in the fall 2010 catalog they had a handful of options of diff days and times to work with.

Luckily my work schedule can be somewhat flexible. I would prefer mostly evenings though. It would make it easier for work. I have to admit I didn't expect to get in this fall. I heard horror stories about waiting lists and so on. Very weird.

yes, I have too. it has a lot to do with passing that dosage test. there are some that have all pre reqs done but have not passed that test, and basically you only get one shot at it a year. not sure how to do private messages on here yet...but feel free to inbox me about school too, maybe we will have class or clinicals at same time
