Pharmacology help. I need your opinion

Published

I am taking pharmacology for the second time as I missed passing by 2% points last semester. Passing rate last semester was a 75%, now this semester all nursing classes need a passing rate of an 80% or higher.

The class has not changed. It is considered a hybrid course, meaning you study all of the information yourself and take the tests every thursday. I am currently failing the course with a 73%. I have already met with the tutor for the course, which was no help, he basically said that in order to pass you need to study the prototype and two other drugs within that class (which there are quite a few) and hope you choose the right answer. I have also had multiple discussions with my advisor regarding this class and she actually set up a meeting with several of us to help prepare us for the exam, which helped but not enough to get a passing grade.

I have also talked to the PCI of the course which also teaches content of the course (more or less sends us NCLEX style questions from ATI book, but does not give us answers to the questions and does not assist us in understanding the material needed for the test) and when students ask her questions via e-mail or text, all she says is read the material and study the ATI book, but the ATI does not focus on the drugs that we need to know for the test.

I do not know what to do anymore, I feel like I have exhausted all of my options to try and pass, and there is nothing left to do. So far all 18 students in this class are failing with less than a 80% in the course. My only option is to talk to the president of the school, but I don't know what to say to him. If you were in my shoes, what would you do?

The next exam we have coming up is cardiac and there are 37 prototypes we need to know for this exam. :(

Thanks, I have tried using that in the past and I have noticed there is information left out that was not in there that I needed for the test. So I try to avoid using that.

Pharmacology is alot like anatomy in the sense that it really just comes down to memorization. Buy yourself a good nursing drug book and sit down and study. For each class of drugs put together a list of the drugs within that class and know them. Look at the bright side, learning the drugs now will make working as a nurse that much easier cause you're going to already have command of that information.
