What are your pet peeves in nursing? I'll start:

I absolutely hate it when a patient is in full isolation... gown, gloves, masks.. the works and when you try to remind the visitor that these items are needed in order to enter the room, they say, "But the nurse on the last shift said that we really don't need to wear the gown (or gloves, masks, etc...). " Grrrrr!!:angryfire

Also, I hate it when physicians enter and leave isolation rooms without taking precautions... and don't even wash their hands. We had problems in our last facility with a few physicians like that. :nono:

How 'bout unit managers with absolutely no interpersonal skills... who walk away from you when you ask a question and make you feel like she thinks your legitimate questions are a waste of her time? How in the world do they ever get promoted into an overseeing role when they obviously are not even approachable by any of the staff???

Well, thats my list, at least for tonight. What are your pet peeves?

people who moan and groan about everything they are asked to do and tell you that when you're not on duty they dont have to follow directions from the don.people who lie about doing duties.people who make up obs because they just know the patient is stable.people who dont clean up after themselves.people who dont clean those requiring continence care and leave dried faecal matter on residents.people who dont fill in bowel charts making it impossible to decide if a resident needs a suppository or aperient.people who drag their feet so they always require help to finish their duties so residents recieve the care they need.people who come in early and remove charts etc when you havent finished with them.people who say at the end of a shift "Mr so and so doesnt look right" and you find someone with a #nof.people who leave residents with food smeared over their faces.people who will be socialising when you come on ,tell you its been a good evening and you find one helluva mess.

...patients who complain about everything under the sun to the nurse, then as soon as the doctor walks in the room they have nothing to say...

...the pt's who talk about everything under the sun, and don't get the hint when you start inching towards the door... (thank heavens for spectra links and coworkers who understand there are times you really need to be called away for "something important".)

....when pt's are admitted and have a thousand visitors who all ask a million questions when the patient is in the hospital for non-compliance with medication. HEEELLLOOO if you're so concerned, make sure they get what they should be taking at home in the first place!!!...

... patients who complain to everyone BUT the nurse. Let us know if there is a problem and maybe it can be remedied BEFORE it becomes something big.

....Staff who dont give skin care with TED hose use. I just love those snow showers you get when you pull off the TEDS and noone has done skin care in days.:angryfire

... walking into a patients room to give a pill and there is NO water for the patient to take the pill with. If there is time to sit there is time to fill pitchers.
