Pet peeve

Please forgive me as I'm certain this subject has been broached many times, yet I just can't stop myself from being completely put off and ashamed by some health care providers. When I come across in chart entries, orders, professional blogs... commonly used (simple) words that are misspelled or sentence structure and syntax more in line with a junior high school student, I am immediately embarrassed for the profession and quickly dismiss the author's credibility. Right or wrong, I feel that your spoken and written words are reflections of your intelligence, competence, and overall professionalism. While I get that not everyone possesses this innate ability, for goodness sake, use spell check or Google it if you have to! I don't mean to be harsh, but really?

I too believe that we cast an impression by the words we speak or write since they reflect who we are. I also agreed with the first moderator's observation that with the advent of electronics, auto correct and other new norms, society has essentially lost much of the writing and speaking ability, techniques, spelling and grammar fundamentals. Changing back the progression starts at home. Thank you for this feed.

I think this post and all of the comments are quite comical. Glad that I am more laid back and understanding of others so that I do not waste my time on judging and critiquing things like word misspellings and sentence structure. I recommend a few deep breaths and maybe a glass of wine :)

There are very intelligent people with written language difficulties that make even using spell check ineffective at times. Try to understand that you experiences are not everyone else's and some are doing the best they can given their circumstances.
