Permanent Resident in USA planning to take NCLEX

Should I take IELTS before NCLEX as a permanent resident in the USA and a registered nurse in the philippines

Published

I am an RN in Philippines. I’m a permanent resident here in USA. I want to take NCLEX but I don’t know where to start. Some people say I don’t need to apply CFGNS since I’m already a permanent resident. What are the requirements and steps to take the NCLEX exam as a permanent resident in Michigan? Thank you!

If you trained outside the US then you follow requirements of the state for someone trained outside the US. Being permanent resident has nothing to do with it. It all goes on where you trained

I want to follow the requirements but there are no specific requirements for a permanent resident taking NCLEX exam in Michigan unlike California’s requirement. I was planning to take an exam in California before when I lived there and in their requirements I don’t need to apply for CFGNS as a permanent resident. I don’t know about Michigan though, I am having a hard time looking it up. Thank you for the reply.

According to BON website you need CGFNS certification program. Check out page 2 on this link https://www.michigan.gov/documents/lara/Nursing_517651_7.pdf

Thank you so much! I’ve been looking for it for so long! I do am planning to call for information. But this is a great help, thank you.

Your permanent residency has nothing to do with NCLEX application except that it gives you the advantage to apply to States or territories that require SSN especially in California and now in your current State of Michigan. Even if you're located outside the US, you're still able to apply without SSN by applying to States and territories that don't require SSN such as New Mexico and Illinois. In your case, you have to apply through Michigan's BON's requirements as an international graduate. Thus, that pdf from Silverdragon102's link can guide you. Good luck!

Hi. I am a permanent resident who graduated BSN degree in the Philippines. Do I still need tl take the board exam from the country where I graduated or can I take NCLEX California right away? Based on my understanding on the state's requirement, it can either be a license or just a diploma. Am I right?

Take the NCLEX right away. You don’t need to take Nursing board exam in Philippines.

Thank you so much! ?
