Are there really shifts available on a daily basis with per diem companies in the San Francisco and Sacramento areas now? I am traveling form Alabama to California and encountered a delay in getting a travel contract, yet. I want to go ahead and come out but this will be my ONLY income-so I really need to know if shifts are readily abilable on a daily basis or not. Also, if not on a daily basis, how often are shifts available? Can someone please help me with this?

You may want to check with nursefinders or MGA healthcare staffing agencies. They seem to have a lot of work in those areas. Agency pay is not the best but it's o.k. As far as work right now I do not know whether the Bay Area or Sacramento has the greater need. I work at the University Med Center and they do not use agency staff, but I used to work for a small community hospital outside of Sacramento that was always utilizing these agencies

It is pretty hit or miss and agency work here pays nearly 40 dollars an hour less than staff jobs pay...

You can go directly to the source. Skip the middle-man...
Here in Sacramento:
Sutter is hiring. Memorial, General, Auburn, Roseville, and Davis. Good money.
Mercy is hiring as well. San Juan, Methodist, General, Folsom. Still good money.
Pay depends on experience and station ASN/BSN/MSN. Expect north of $48.00/hr.
Hell and gone from anything you might find in the southeast.
Emergencynrse and mskate, you have been most helpful. I can not thank you enough. Take care and God be with you.
