Pepid vs. epocrotes, vs. skyscape

I know some of you use some of these.

I am going to purchase a ipod touch to use for work and am trying to figure out which programs to buy.

I have used the free epocrates and will continue to use that.

Any recommendations?

The pepid for primary care has a lot of stuff with it, but i have never used it before.

I will be doing primary/urgent care (basically urgent care)

i have a palm treo 755p from sprint. i have tried the windows based software and just became use to palm, so therefore, i prefer it. pepid works with both systems. as for the smartphone itself, i really like it. it will freeze up at times, mostly when i am getting into bad coverage areas, but considering the alternative phone selections, i wouldn't want to trade in my 755p. the benefits versus risks of changing to a new phone lead me to hang on to mine for a while. :) i thought about changing over to a phone and carrying a separate pda, but my pockets are already full enough.

I have a Treo 750p and love it. I've always had Palm products and haven't come up with a good reason to switch. I used to have separate PDA, phone and pager, which drove me nuts. I was so happy when I consolidated. My only complaint is not having WiFi, but I'm near computers all the time so really don't need it.

i don't have "wifi" so to speak, but i can access the internet, rather quickly, over the sprint network on my phone since they have newly upgraded to the 3g or evdo capabilities. should be the same, regardless of which service you have. it hasn't ever kept me from doing anything...

Yeah, I'm just too cheap to pay for Verizon's data time. :p

haha... gotcha!! i'm sure i'd be in the same boat if my hubby didn't work for sprint ;)

I just got an ipod touch 32gb should arrive by Wed!!!

i've been waiting for a long time for apple to allow 3rd parties to create non-wifi programs. So now finally skyscape has programs that you can use on the ipod touch without having internet access. (i eventually want to do missions medical work who knows where, nepal, africa, india, where wifi might not be available in the mountains etc.)

The only downside to this is that skyscape is requiring annual subscriptions instead of just having the data permanently on your device like on a palm. Which in all reality is just a money making scheme, although they comment, "we want our users to have the most up to date version... uh huh, and how come palm users don't have to have the most up to date?

Well, i still think its good, and figure i can deduct on taxes so...

I will try to update here and in the computing section..once i get the touch and buy a few programs..

will have to see, looks like i want to get the pepid now too, not sure if compatible with touch.

Also Daisy,

is that YOUR baby in the avatar? if so congrats!! :D

so looks like pepid is still wifi only for touch/iphone (although they are in phase for beta testing for native app. i sent them an email wanting to be a tester a while back, haven't heard anything new)

epocrotes is available through the apple APP store for free, obviously not the full version, but is accessible off line.

haha... gotcha!! i'm sure i'd be in the same boat if my hubby didn't work for sprint ;)

ah, ha! the secret is out. lucky you!

I graduated 3 weeks ago and trying to get my act together between transcripts, ANCC application etc.. I have only used lexicomp, which seems very cumbersome from a standpoint of having so many clicks to get to the data points. I am looking to change and knew about epocrates but not eh other two. After reading through the posts it sounds like pepid could be a great choice for me. Initially thought I would be working neurosurgery, but a pulmonary/intensivist oppty came up so I will be working with him. It sounds like pepid has some guidelines referenced. Out of all the products is there one more ICU tailored? I know I have to get something, but the websites are limited in what they project as demos and I can't say that I am the most techno savy person. Thoughts?
