30 people laid off of my hospital (Non-nursing staff)

I went in today for my urine drug screen at my new job (I"ve been doing agency there for many months, know everyone well)

The hospital laid off 30 non-patient care providers from ancillary depts this week. They are feeling the pinch. Elective and semi-elective admissions are down, plus the hospital is having to eat the bills of patients under the new Medicare rules. Also, they've spent millions on agency personnel this year.

I'm glad I had such an in with this hospital. The manager told me that all the nurses on the unit volunteered to write letters of recommendation for me to be hired. I'm so thankful to have found a unit where I'm so warmly appreciated.

I wonder what the next year will bring? I feel like we are all in this recession together, with hard times ahead. We need to be kind to one another. Many in our communities are already hurting.
