Hi! I'm moving to the Gulf Breeze area and have interviews set up with the following hospitals- Baptist in Pensacola, West Florida, and North Okaloosa in Crestview. Anyone out there work for any of these or know any positives/negatives? I know absolutely nothing about them besides what is on their websites. Thanks!

I know that usually if a person leaves Baptist to go elsewhere, they end up coming back.

I've worked at two of the three largest hospitals in Pensacola. What is your nursing experience(years as RN)
and do you have any specialties(NICU, medsurg, etc?)Are you a new graduate? Have to have some more info before trying to help you decide which hospital is right for you. Welcome to the area, we're glad you decided to join us!:welcome:
I just graduated nursing school 3 weeks ago and am waiting to take NCLEX. My interests lie in postpartum or mother baby but I am willing to work in med/surg. Also, I am pretty inexperienced with interviews. What would you wear for interviews with nurse managers, a business suit or business casual attire?
I know that of the 3 largest hospitals in Pensacola(West Florida, Sacred Heart, and Baptist) West Florida has the smallest labor and delivery and postpartum unit. They don't have a neonatal intensive care unit either. Sacred Heart does a booming baby business and is in the process of building a brand new womens and childrens hospital near their primary facility. They also have the regional neonatal intensive care unit-sick infants from a 200 mile radius are sent there. I know nothing about Baptist labor and delivery but I'm pretty sure it's a hopping place too. North Okaloosa probably has the smallest L and D by a wide margin based on the hospital size. I think your best bet to be hired into postpartum care as a new grad would be Sacred Heart and then Baptist. As for a medsurg position, they all have them and none has a stellar reputation as a place for new grads to start. Because of the large number of nursing schools nearby, they have an endless supply of cheap labor so they can ride their med surg nurses hard and give them
crappy patient ratios cause they know the pipeline is always full. If you're serious about the postpartum/mom and baby nursing I would present that up front at each interview with that hospital's nurse recruiter. If they say they don't hire new grads for those positions, ask if you can reschedule another appt about the open new grad med surg positions after you've completed your initial round of interviews at all the area hospitals. So when the recruiter asks you what nursing areas you're interested in start c mom/baby and don't even mention med surg. They'll do that for you. As for what to wear, I'm a male RN and have never interviewed in anything but suit and tie. If I show up, I'm serious-but I also always wear a smile. And of course I believe nothing management says unless it's written and signed. This should be an exciting time for you and so don't let anyone rush you or pressure
you-there are lots of jobs here and they need you way more than you need them...I promise. Your first job can be a career maker or breaker so choose wisely. If you interview at West Florida let me know- I work there and would be happy to show you around.

Hi.........just wondered what you decided! Welcome to the area. I agree with the previous posts about Sacred Heart being THE place to be for L&D or newborn. (and I have a special love for neonatal!.....those tiny tiny babies are so awesome) Anyway......Baptist in Gulf Breeze is a very very desired place and med surg there would be a great experience from what I have heard. Let us know how it's going!
