I was curious when it comes to applying, there are only really 3 classes required to apply correct?

BIO

A&P

GEN PSYCHOLOGY

the gen ed can be done while in the program or waiting to get in, is that right?

Anyone know if at any point in the program, are we able to test to be an LPN while in school to be an RN, is that possible?

Also, has anyone done the nights/weekends program? What hours were you in class/doing clinicals?

The only points now are based on GPA and if you have kicro from what I gathered, is that still accurate as well?

Thank you!!

Yes, just the 3 requirements to apply, however, it is highly recommended that you get all of them completed before applying. The first semester courses aren't bad, but the second is a nightmare. I can't imagine taking anything on top of the load I'm about to carry- and I don't work and my kids are in school full time.

I know nothing about being able to test for LPN while in the program. I believe you can take the CNA test after the first semester.

I'm in the day program, but I believe the night classes start around 5:30pm and clinicals are on the weekends. However, I have night and weekend clinicals this semester despite being in the day program. Only a few groups in my class have a schedule like mine, it's weird.

Points are based on GPA and you get an additional point if you have micro completed (highly recommend).

Very helpful information, thank you! I had it planned to do the gen ed prior to the program, just wasn't totally sure if I had to before I applied too. You answered all my questions though :)

How do you like the program so far?

You are very welcome!

I like the program, but I'm also very "go with the flow", so if you value organization, it's going to take some adjusting. I LOVED my instructors, and I did very well in both classes (A's in both), but sometimes it was difficult to keep up with the changing info. I've heard that the second semester professors are very organized, so that's good. Just roll with whatever they throw at you and you'll be okay. We'll see how things go next semester- I just plugged all of my info into my calendar and it's going to be a wild 16 weeks!

@Amber0627 Did you apply for Jan 2017? If so, have you heard when we should be getting letters in the mail? I emailed someone a few weeks ago and she told me that they should be mailing letters out within the next 3 weeks----that was on 8/22. Im hoping to hear some good news within the next 2 weeks or so. Good luck to you!

I applied for Spring 2017 and got my acceptance letter yesterday (10/4/2016). I am very excited to get started. I am doing Supplemental Instruction over at Longview right now (which is good for embedding this in my brain!). There are so many things that I don't know, but that is what school is for right? Where does PV do their clinicals? What are they like? Is it days? Nights? Both? How soon in advance can you get your books? I would like to start reading now. Ok...enough questions! Looking forward to meeting some classmates (my name is Tammy btw)

Kandy, I received my acceptance letter yesterday (10/4/2016)

Congratulations Tammy! I got my acceptance letter on Monday. Ive been working hard on getting all of our requirements taken care of in Castle Branch. I was told that our mandatory meeting is from 10-noon on 10/14 also! I look forward to meeting you!

I am pretty excited. I will be at the meeting next Friday as well. I wonder how many of us there are? I have also been working on castle branch, but I have questions. I am registered for the drug screening but are we supposed to wait until closer to start or get it now? (either is fine with me) The rest I just have to get from my Dr. Did you apply anywhere else?

I'm in my sophomore semester and clinicals are different for each group/semester. I was at St. Luke's South on the Surgical Care Unit last semester and it was booooooring. We only had 7 clinical days all semester, mine were Thursdays but each group is different. There were no weekend clinicals last semester for us (I'm in a day class). Some people were at St. Mary's and Village Shalom. I don't remember if there were any other hospitals, but there were lots of nursing homes.

This semester I as at Research for mental health (10 clinical days total, mine were Saturday/Sunday) and Truman for OB (10 days total, I'm Monday/Wednesday). Some groups were lucky and didn't get weekend clinicals. My OB clinical on Wednesday is until 8:30pm- I have lecture from 8:30am to 10:30am and then go to clinical. Again, not all groups are like that.

Get your books whenever but honestly, pre-reading isn't likely to be of much benefit. Our Funds instructor covered parts of chapters and emphasized key points. If anything, practice med terminology and med calculations. They'll tell you what to focus on for exams. I read half of my mental health book over the summer and it was a total waste of time.

Thank you for the helpful info about the program!

Im a little confused about an item in Castle Branch also. Hopefully I can get clarification on it at the meeting. I did my drug screen last week....I want to get as much stuff completed as I possibly can. I have my physical on Thursday, and then I need to get my flu shot (through my employer) next Tuesday I believe. The only other thing I need to do besides that I the FCSR letter, but I have to wait to receive notification from them. I called them on Friday and they said they are about 2 weeks behind on processing them.

I also applied at KCKCC. But since I dont live in KS anymore, I decided to apply at Penn Valley. I felt like my chances of getting into KCKCC were pretty slim to begin with because residents of Wyandotte and Leavenworth Counties get priority into their program. When I was living on the KS side I was in JoCo...so that lowered my chances to getting into their program to about 10%. (pretty disheartening after doing all of these pre-reqs for a program!) Oh well...their loss! lol. Im so glad I applied at Penn Valley!!!!!!
