I applied for the Fall 2010 class for the second degree program! I am getting really nervous though, because I haven't heard anything to see if I have been accepted. When did you get your letters last year? I couldn't really find out any info on when they are expected to be sent out.

What campus is the 2nd degree accelereated program at? I have a BS in Bio but got in the ADN program at PSu Mont Alto. Wondering if there is a 2nd degree program within reasonable distance of where I live (Harrisburg)?

I just talked to PSU about the Altoona Second Degree Program for Fall 2010. They have not sent out their acceptances yet, but they should go out within the week!!!

Get used to not hearing any information from this program. I'm in the first class of PSU's second degree program and it is one of the worst choices I've made so far in my life. If you applied anywhere else and can still get in at another school I would highly recommend doing so. The teaching staff for both the second degree and associate's degree program at PSU Altoona are very sub par.

I was just as excited as you are this time last year, but now, 6 months into the program, I wish I had gone to the other school I was accepted to. The most frustrating thing about nursing at Altoona is that any complaints/concerns you have are immediately dismissed and your are targeted and "punished" for your opinion.

PSU Altoona nursing is a dictatorship, not an education.

Hey...hope that the ones that applied for the fall 2010 program either got in here or got into the program that they desired!!...Im in the current 2nd degree class and as you will soon find out its going to be very intense and fast paced but one of the nice things is that with the small group size you will become very close with your other classmates and hopefully at some point our class will be able to meet with your entire class! Don't be afraid to ask questions to any of us already in program :)

Hope that you all have a wonderful spring and summer and one piece of advice is to SAVE UP because there isn't much (if really any) time to make money while in the program.

One last thing...for anyone that has gotten into the 2010 2nd degree program...there is a facebook group http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?v=wall&gid=135978434451 that we encourage you to join and im sure that if any of you would like information on where to find housing or other information that we could start a discussion group to help you all out on your journey into this program. Also please be aware that this group is for professional purposes regarding the 2nd degree nursing students of penn state and that many of the staff members of the nursing program are members of this group as well...so what you say publically on this facebook page will be seen by the PSU altoona nursing staff that you will be dealing wtih in the fall.

I'd recommend this program to anyone! There is so much content to be covered in 16-mo (which is actually 14/15-mo with the vacation time) that I wonder how some places can accomplish this in 11-mos!

This is a very very young program, and I would say the faculty has done an excellent job for their first year. They are learning and growing along with the students, and I feel that the program won't be "together" for a few years, but they are constantly tweaking material. Like I said, I'd totally recommend PSU's program to anyone (of course I bleed blue & white, also, so any other place is just unacceptable)! :-)
