PENDING CHARGES -Texas

Hi ,

Im new here. First, I'd like to say that I know that the only person that can give me a real answer to my question is the BON. However, I just wanted to hear from anyone who may have had a similar situation to mines. I currently have two pending charges. One is a misdemeanor assault on my ex and the second is a Felony (assault) ( continuous family violence ) with my ex as well. In both cases it was self defense. I'm hoping that they will be dismissed within the next two months. Would it be a good idea to petition the board now while they're pending and explain or wait until it's over? The deadline to submit my application packet for the RN program to my school is in March. I heard these things take a while.

It would be best for you to seek legal advice from someone who specializes in BON issues. I don't think I'd even bother applying to school with two recent assault charges. A mishap with an expired automobile registration kept me from being accepted until it was completely cleared up by the court.

Were you arrested? I am not an attorney, an attorney is who can best help you. It seems like you have two separate incidents involving domestic violence type charges. If it were one charge that was reduced to something non-violent, or dropped all together, maybe. You have two... Two is a pattern of behavior. Or at least that's how it's viewed by the public... If I'm not mistaken, even if the charges are dropped you are going to have the arrests on your record forever. I don't think you can have violent arrests expunged, even if the charges are dropped. Dropped charges don't mean the same thing to others as they do to us. To us, not going to jail or having a felony or misdemeanor conviction is a BIG deal. To regular people, they just think we 'got lucky,' and are probably still hooligans. Get GOOD representation! Good luck! Let us know what you find out... There's life after a brush with the law, but it ain't gonna be easy.
