Feb 7, '07Joined: Dec '04; Posts: 11,695; Likes: 14,916Spina bifida is a fascinating condition. I have a ten-year-old g-kid with a fairly severe case. I do think you would be wise to pick one aspect of the condition and concentrate on its effects over time.
Hydrocephalus and shunting--placement, complications, revisions--is one direction you could go in.
Arnold Chiari malformation of the brain (a co-malady sometimes seen in SB kids) is another.
Ortho, neuro, GI, pulmonary, and renal needs are still other possibilities.
You could choose any of the major body systems and relate how SB affects development and what types of needs and complications might present.

Congenital heart defects, maybe HLHS could work too. Hemophilia, sickle cell also good choices. The problem might come with your 5 page limitation.
