Anyone recommend a good PALS book. I'm taking the course next month and I'd like to read the book ahead of time. Thanks.

PALS Provider Manual 2002 with American Academy of Pediatrics and American Heart Association is the required text in which you will be issued once you have registered to take the PALS course.

I'm told that there is a new one comming out with the new guidelines.

The new one might be out already, not sure. It will still be published by AHA in association the the AAP. There really aren't study guides, etc to with PALS like there are at bookshops for ACLS, if that's what you're asking. I do think it's worth it to have your own though instead of borrowing one from the class.

The 2005 AHA PALS text will be out around the end of October.

There is a small spiral ECC Handbook for Emergency Cardiovascular Care from AHA that is out now which includes BLS, NRP, ACLS and PALS.

the ecc handbook for emergency cardiac is an extremely useful reference. additionally, all of the 2005 american heart association guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency cardiovascular care were published as a supplement to the december 13 2005 issue of circulation. this information is available in its entirety on line at the following url: http://circ.ahajournals.org/content/vol112/24_suppl/.

i personally find this publication more useful than the provider textbook as it includes many of the rationales behind why an intervention was included or excluded.

The new guidelines are out and new ECC books are out too. I would advise getting a new book. You can get one from the American Heart Assoication.
