Pediatric Nursing Paper

Hi all,

I just started my Peds rotation last week. For our classroom work, we must write a 5 page paper on a very specific topic dealing with pediatrics and nursing. I am having trouble finding current, hot topics within Peds.

That's where you all come into play. I was hoping that the community could provide me with some topics of interest I could look into some more.

Thanks!

Circs are always a hot topic...although it is more of a debate I suppose. There is the multiples who were put into custody and given blood products despite their parent's religous beliefs (freedom of choice etc). The childhood vaccination vs. autism topic that has been researched and is back in the news recently. Just a few ideas.

How about the impact of obesity, such as diabetes, high BP, etc, on pedi patients?

I did a paper on this and found lots of current info.

Sometimes browsing thru pedi nursing journals will give you good ideas for topics as well.

I really like the idea of blood products used despite their parents' religious beliefs. However, a point of this paper has to relate to nursing. How could nurses affect this? It's really up to the parents, nurses shouldn't use their belief system upon patients.

The issue is that it somehow has to reflect on what nurses can do to change something. With better patient teaching perhaps?

Specializes in med/surg, telemetry, IV therapy, mgmt.

go to the list of topics for pediatrics on emedicine (http://www.emedicine.com/). you'll find something interesting.
