pediatric interview tomorrow... no pedi expierience!

:yeah:Congratulations on your interview!!! I do not know where you attended nursing school, however, I am sure you received some clinical experiences with pediatrics as well as theory on growth and development. Remember that much of that content focused on approaches to patients in different stages of development, i.e. the toddler, preschooler, school age and adolescent.

Focus on what you DO KNOW! Think back to your clinical experiences. Did you have any pediatric patients? Did you visit a day care? See pediatric patients in a doctor's office? Handle newborns in OB rotation?

Your desire and enthusiam to work with pediatric patients will also go a long way in impressing your interviewer.:redbeathe

Be sure to dress professionally, be on time, act confident, and think and speak in a positive manner.

Congrats on your interview! I had a similar situation to you. After school I worked in LTC/Rehab but my dream job and passion was to work in OB/newborn. Except what I had learned in school, I had no past experience in that field. By the grace of god I finally got an interview at a hospital childbirth center and got the job. Then that job led to another OB job because I had experience at that point. One reason I think I got the job is because I made it known that this area was my passion and dream in nursing. I think if you go in with that kind of attitude and motivation you will impress the interviewer.

Since you already have an interview, they are probably already "ok" with you not having previous peds experience.

I think if they see your enthusiam it will go a long way. You may just want to brush up on your peds by re-reading your nursing text. Try to recall good experiences and sitiations you've had with patients, coworkers, classmates. Every recent interviewer I've had likes to ask those questions, "Tell me about a time when.... (fill in the blank)". Good Luck!
