I just applied for a Pediatric Home care position. They are offering me $29.50/hr does that sound like a reasonable pay for home care?
In my area, it's $22 to $25/hour. Hospitals pay a lot more, but I don't care; I have found my niche. ? Since I only do private duty homecare, I make it a point to always have 2 cases. If one kiddo is in the hospital, moves, or dies, I still have at least some ongoing hours. It truly is feast or famine, so I bank it when I have extra hours.
In your case - since you already have a regular job and are only doing this part time - I expect your income will be fairly steady.
I, too, will only accept cases that are an hour or less commute, although I will go further for a short time, say a week or so, to help out.
Comparing this to RN rates from different agencies in the past (in my area), it looks as if Aveanna has not gone beyond the $28 or so that RN's were being paid to do extended care as long as 15 or 16 year ago. Today I saw $30 an hour offered to LVN's willing to do a fill-in schedule where one goes from one call off here today to another call off there tomorrow instead of having a permanent assignment to a case. An Aveanna LVN I met is getting paid $27 an hour and there was an Aveanna ad with an LVN range from $24 to $30 an hour. I think this is on the low end of the scale for RN's. There would have to be positive reasons to accept this rate and one should not find out that the next Aveanna RN they meet doing the same job is being paid, say, $35 an hr to do the same thing. You get the general idea.
A word to the wise: Keep a meticulous record of the times the tablet says you sign in and sign out because that system is rife with problems. Just wait until you see your paycheck and try to figure it out. If you sign out at 1505, the next time you work, make sure the log says 1505 and not 1405. These mistakes have nothing at all to do with daylight savings time.
It seems a bit low, in NJ RNs with ped experience (trach and vent specifically) are around $32, depending on the acuity of the patient . The salary is higher also if you’re doing the overnights or weekend shifts . Once you’ve been doing it for a while you maybe able to bump it up a little. Typically, homecare pays less than the hospital in my experience
