New to the school nurse forum.
I recently signed my contract for elementary school nurse position in Texas. When I was hired I told my supervisor that I would have to give my 2 wks notice to my hospital job. It wasn't my intention to start so late in the year but I had to wait for the position to be approved by the school board yadayadayada.
So my humble request to this fine group, what are some pearls of wisdom you can share? Tips on having a late start? (My district has a screening team that helps out with the screenings.) TIA!

Welcome to the school nurse forum! :) I am a new school nurse and I also got a later start (I started on the second day of school). Are there other school nurses in your district?
Yeah, it's a kind of a big-ish district. Every school has a nurse.

Welcome!!!!
First thing I would do is start going through their files (cumulative folders) or look for information about food allergies/health conditions. Immunizations & any medications that need to be given.
This should keep you busy for a while

If there is already a database from the last years with heath concerns, LTC, meds at school, great. If not, as you are going through the files, start one!!! Welcome to a great job :)
