PDA's for nurses... Anyone use them?

hi all...i was looking into pda's and what they have to offer a nurse. i have seen them that have the drug guides, pdr's, and lots of other nursing helps built in. does anyone use these? are they allowed where you work? some of the programs out there for pda's and nursing are pretty cool.

Oh,,,,I need prayers. I have already posted how much I love my pda.....now I have lost it. I got iced in at work this week and between crashing at the hospital overnight and trying to cope with everything I can't find my PDA. I think I need a Xananx!

Ps...for those loking for programs I got mine off of E-Bay...My palm too!

Ebay has some, bought my Palm there originally - but I'm in the market for a new one! :)

i would really love to have one. where do you purchase these. i am from a small town and dont think they have anything like that. they just now have sat radio...lol. :rotfl:

i bought mine at best buy. dell has some you can purchase online. places like office depot and officemax has them.

I'm trying to decide which PDA to get right now.

How much would you say you guys have spent on your programs on average? I need to know that so I can decide how much $ I have to spend on the PDA itself.

I've spent about as much on software as on the PDA itself--about $200. I probably should have saved almost 50 by skipping the RN Dx program. It's not bad, but when I careplan, I have all my books available, so I don't really use it.

I got the Davis Drug Guide and Taber's in a package for about 70 bucks, but ePocrates has a free drug guide that isn't bad. If you google Palm software, there are a bunch of places, and a lot have programs you can download on trial for free. They won't have most of the info, but you can at least try them and see if you like them.

There's probably another 100 bucks worth or so I want, but that may have to wait until I'm making nurse's pay.

my dad bought me a sony at overstock.com when i finished my prereqs and started nursing classes. new would have been about $500 and he paid $150 for a refurbished one, like i can even tell the difference. they don't always have them, but if they do i think it's worth it. also, definitely go to epocrates.com and get their free drug guide. i can't wait until i can afford to get their package for nurses.

Davis Drug Guide

Nursing Procedures

Nurse's Disease Check

The drug guide by far is what I use the most. The Nursing Procedures program has been very helpful, since I am a new grad. It also gives you photo/diagrams of the procedure you are looking up.

whatever pda you get....get one with a keyboard...it will make life much easier. let me know if you have any other pda related questions.

I use the Clie UX-50 (available at e-bay at great prices...just make sure you ask if it comes with a 1 year warranty and if it is refurbished or not.... nothing wrong with refurbished ones..except they have a 90 day warranty instead, the benefit though is you get it much cheaper.)

my tungsten e crapped out on me. boo! so i bought a t5. yay! the screen and being able to change orientation are nice. might not quite be worth the additional money, but i've always hated to scrimp on tools.

get a hard case, whatever you chose.

i'm giving my dad a zire 72 for his birthday, tomorrow. it has some features i envy--digital camera and voice recorder. it would be iffy, at best, to use the camera for nursing, but it'd be fun to have in my travels, and the voice recording could be really handy. and you can get a gps receiver for it, which i don't need, but really want.

they're starting to crop up all over in nsg school.
