This is probably a really stupid question, but where do you get PDA software? I am technically challanged.

Also what are the best applications to get for the first semester of NS?

I am thinking about getting the one from palm.

you can download the free epocrates to look up your drugs.

There's an entire forum dedicated to PDA "stuff". I have been considering purchasing a PDA and this is where I found all of my information. :)

A PDA is an amazing tool to have during clinicals, from your very first semester on! I cannot tell you how invaluable it was to me. I just completed the first clinical rotation and I'm on to my 2nd semester. I was the only one in class who had a PDA, and when it came time to doing our paperwork or med. sheets, it took me a matter of a few minutes to gather up the info. When providing patient care, I used it constantly for looking up diseases and disorders from which the patient was suffering, their medications, symptoms, lab values, etc. The software that I bought was very expensive. I use www.skyscape.com. I have the following software on my PDA: Taber's medical encyclopedia, RNNotes, Davis' Drug Guide, Diseases & Disorders, Nursing Diagnosis, Clinical Handbook of Lab Tests, Nursing Procedures, Signs & Symptoms. I am currently trying the PEPID student nursing software and I really like it so I may end up purchasing that one. I bought a 'bundle' of software from skyscape for nurses so it came with several software titles for one price. I believe it was called Nursing Constellation. But the best software was bought individually. That is the drawback to having a PDA, the software can get quite expensive. But I justify the purchase in this manner...I have teenage sons who have an XBox 360 and the software is about $60 per game. The software for MY career is about this price or less for each title. So if I can plunk down the money for my sons' games without blinking an eye, why should I feel guilty for investing in my software?

:angryfireI agree with 2benurse w7kids If you can get it to make school easier great I'm getting one within the next week, I asked everyone on my xmas list to get me a gift certificate at circuit city, so I could buy one, it beats the stupid gifts I've gotten over the years. Dave5000

What PDA do you have?

I have the Palm T/X model. This is the one that can go online. I also forgot to mention that, if you get a PDA, it is important to buy a good memory card for it. The memory cards are used to hold all the various software that you purchase. You actually buy software from various websites, include the skyscape.com and the palm.com websites and then you download them from the website directly to your desktop PC and also to your palm. I also bought the portable keyboard but I have never used it much so that is not really necessary. Hope this info helps.

last year my boyfriend baught me the palm TX, i made him return it. I am now an owner of the new HP ipaq 111. I LOVE IT! THe palm didn't have everyhting i needed for nursing school. THe HP has a microphone (palm does not) Has bluetooth & Wi Fi (more syncing options) i can "beam" files and programs from other windows OS devices to mine w/out any cables. It is sooo much lighter than a palm, and i find easier to use. I have owned a total of 4 different palm devices (not including the one i returned) and I don't think i will ever go back! PDA cortex has so some good programs for download, and you can always check out reviews on cnet.com

thank you so much for the info, mine should be in by tomorrow I looked it up on UPS tracker and it says 12/28 delivery yay! I am going to check out the links you gave us thank you!

I just got my pda for xmas, a palm tungsten, and immediately downloaded Davis drug manual I LOVE IT. It is going to make clinicals so much easier when the instructor says know these drugs on your patient before you can pass meds to them. Dave 5000:angryfire

I have the Palm TX - it is awesome first semester I only used epocrates - before next semester starts I want to buy an online medical dictionary,
