Published

hello everyone, it has been a while since i last visited but nursing school has kept me hopping. i recently purchased a sony clie and loving it. thanks to you guys, i made the decision of which one to purchase. lika a lot of you said it was expensive but worth every penny. "thanks again" anyway my question is, does anyone have any advise of where i can download free software? i.e. pharmacology, medical dictionary, drug book, etc. i would appriecate any advise.

Hi im glad you are happy with your pda. I don't leave home without mine and I have every medical book on my pda. One of the free drug books is epocrates.com. If you want to buy some really good medication books as well as care plans and you can also download rn notes. Go to skyscape.com and tarascon.com these aren't free but you can get some really good information and it's easier than carrying your books when you have it all in your pda. You must buy a memory card because your pda will not hold all of the information, you will need more memory.

Thank you so much for the info. I too don't leave home without mine. My husband doesn't like the idea of my carrying it in my pursue but I told him that's what I bought a hard case for, so that it wouldn't get damaged. I will be certain to check out all of these sites. One more question. Either I'm not looking in the right place in my owners manueal or it's not in there, but is it realitive easy to download these books into the pda? Again I'm very grateful for the information and thanks again.

I bought a pda for school too--but haven't had the need to use it yet; as I am a first year student and we're only 5 weeks in. But I bought a Tungsten T3 and it didn't come with a users manual. I had my mom download one from the net, print it, and send it to me--it's over 300 pages long!!! I've been so busy with school work that I haven't had time to sit down and figure out how to use it yet. Maybe someday!! Good luck!

It is really easy to download the books. Once you are on the websites they walk you through the entire process. Let me no if you need any help.

ePocrates.com has free download for drug reference. I found it so benificial I purchased the ePocrates Pro which has medical calculators and good charts and other info. I plan on buying the Essentials kit when it becomes availible this month.

The CDC has a free downloadable program called Shots2004. It gives you the latest info on immunizations for adults and peds.

A friend beamed a copy of a program called ABG Pro. I'm not sure where it came from but it's great for analyzing ABGs. I'm sure if you searched the web you could find it. Address for ABG Pro http://www.stacworks.com/index.html

If you do a search of this site there have been other great suggestions, some of which I have downloaded.

Check out the Avant Go which comes with a Sony Clie. The sony website has links to other shareware. I believe there is a site called shareware that has all sorts of free things, especially games.

Sorry for sounding ignorant, but what is a PDA? Is it a laptop?

I don't think your question was an ignorant question. My mom always said if you don't know ask, you will never know until you ask. No, a PDA is not a labtop, it's what everyone calls a palm pilot. You can store all kinds of information in it. Thanks for all the reference sites. Welz26, I meant to reply in my last post, I have already purchased 2 or 3 memory sticks. My huband said he wanted to make sure I had enough. I think that will do just fine, don't you? To the lady in her first year, I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine, once you start to use it. Trust me as you go on you will find that it will be a part of you that you just don't want to leave behind. Also there are many other things that you can use them for other than nursing. I love having the blue tooth with it, I can assess any wireless internet within the proximity of someone else's. I forget the exact distance but if anyone wants to know I will be more than glad to ask my husband and let you know. Good luck to everyone in school with me and I am looking forward to graduating in December. :coollook:

Sorry forgot to add that a PDA is not a labtop, it is what everyone is calling a palm pilot. You can store lots and all kinds of information in it.

You can download archimedes from skyscape for free. It has all kinds of calculators and conversions.

If you don't have moral issues with copied software...there are a few people selling nursing software for PDA's on ebay. I bought one with all the skyscape software on it for around $10 and it works fine. I figured I'd try out all the programs this way, then purchase the ones I like and use most from skyscape when I have a job and can afford it!
