Hello All,

I am a new grad looking to get my one year of critical care experience and have applied for a position in the PCU of a level I trauma center. Does anyone know or have heard that this will meet the critical care requirement? Thanx in advance?

What does the "PCU" stand for? Is it an ICU? If it is like a PACU, most schools won't accept that as experience. The best thing to do is to call the school/schools your are interested in and ask them.

If by PCU you are referring to Progressive Care Unit or Stepdown (from ICU) the answer is probably not:no:- check with the programs that you are specifically considering for a definitive answer but I would say the answer is no- because there usually are no swan ganz catheters and a limited number/type of vasoactive drips in stepdown units. Best Wishes:wink2:

By PCU, I mean Progressive Care Unit. It's a stepdown unit from ICU.

You will need critical care experience (vents, gtts, swans), you will not get those in a stepdown unit.
