PBSC 2013

U.S.A. Florida

Hi everyone, this is a thread for the January 2013 PBSC students. I know October is right around the corner, so I am a little frazzled right now. I am preparing for the HESI and have purchased the HESI study guide. Haven't made it to the mandatory information session as yet though. Also I was wondering if the Pro-Calc is a required test for new students as well. I didn't see anything online on testing dates etc for that. Is it similar to the HESI?

I took the Red Cross BLS class today and since it was over early I went and did the fingerprinting, background check, etc. Anybody find a place to get the medical exam and titers for less than $125-$150, please post!

Actually it wasn't Red Cross it was American Heart Association, LOL. Looks like FB is going to be better than this forum. Congratulations everyone.

Has everyone had their titers? I can get them for $30 each, but trying to see if I can get it done cheaper :)

The dept of health will always be the cheapest place.

Hello Everyone!!! I know everyone is so busy preparing for the semester and beginning your journey as nurses but I am just finishing up my pre and co requisites for this semester and I would like to get some tips on what to do from here. I have been reading everyones posts and you guys are so helpful and supportive!! I just thought I would try my hand here because I dont have much guidance. I also dont want to do nothing while i am waiting for the application period to come around. Any advice?

Have you taken Pharmacology? If not, get that done once your pre & co-reqs are complete. Good luck!

Hi,

I am planning on applying to the part time program in October of 2013. This is a career change for me. :) I am nervous about the cut off of points that are needed for the program. Does anyone know what the cut off was for the last part time program at PBCC?

Thanks,

Dawn

I was told by the advisor that the average was 27 or something like that if im not mistaken. Your best bet would be to score as high as you can on the HESI to get those ten points!!!! Good Luck I am applying then also!!!

Thanks! I am going to try to see if my points are good enough!

Hello all future applicants,

I was just accepted into the LW Full Time for Spring 2013 with a 25.33. However, I first applied for this current semester (Fall 2011) with the same score and did not get in because the cut off was 25.97. My advice to you would be, do as best as you can on the HESI exam, because that alone can give you 10 points. The fall semester cut-off is usually higher than Spring, if you're aiming for Fall I would suggest you try to have at least 26 points, 26.5 to be save. If you're aiming for the Spring, it can be lower (at least for FT).

If you have any more questions, I'll be more than happy to help you as best I can. I have some down time before the semester begins in January, but once January hits I seriously doubt I'll have time to post. Best of luck to all of you! If you don't make it in the first time, do not give up because I got in my second time around!

For the hesi... Do u know what they asked for the chemistry section? I just want to know what to study, since chemistry is my weakest area.

Chem was my weakest subject too. I studied EVERY detail of the study guide for about a month. That was all I focused on. I would take a chemistry topic (from the book), learn it, then go online (YouTube, wiki, etc..) and learn more of the topic. I really wanted to know all of my chem like a pro. When I took the hesi, I was so confident with it :) first time I took it, I got a 66%, second time, 93%... Effortless
