Paying for Nursing School

good question, I want to know the same thing, I am still taking pre req's but once in the program I would like to stop working and finish the program.

Service Cancellable loans is how I'm paying off my student loans. Basically they give you a set amount of money each semester for nursing school and you pay it off by working as an RN in Georgia!!

I heard of that! but how much do they give you I thought it was like 1,000 a semester right? I guess that would help. but I dont know if I could not work and pay bills with that...hahahaha

In the State of Georgia under the hope scholarship site there is information regarding a "service loan" If you have been accepted into a nursing program you are able to get this loan. Apply early. It is limited. Every semester you take you can get so much money. You pay it back by working in the state of georgia. So if you take the money for a year, you work for a year and the loan is forgiven. I am a nurse and so is my daughter. This is how she got though school. She graduated in 2003 with her AD, 2004 with her BSN and this august with her masters. She will repay part of loans from emory by teaching a couple of semesters. When there is a will there is a way. There is lots of money out there for education. Good Luck:bow:

I did that, too. Worked two years and was done with it. The state paid for my entire tuition.

I know this could go into the nursing student forum but I thought I would get better advice from the locals. I am a single mother and would like to quit my job (but I have a good size mortgage payment each month)

How did you/are you going to pay for nusing school?

Any specific suggestions for private loans? I've applied for stafford -but I haven't heard back yet and I know that is not going to be enough.

Honestly, if you have a large mortgage payment, it might be wise to continue working somewhere part-time while in school.

If you're looking to fully finance your degree with loans, Ed Financial and Sallie Mae are two places to get private loans to help pay for all of your expenses. There's practically no limit to your annual request.
