Paying for Nursing school and private loans, 2ND BS

Published

Anyone else needing to apply for private loans for nursing school? I've been accepted to Drexel and it's very expensive, almost 30k. Since i have an undergrad degree already, I'm not eligible for grants, etc. Anyone else in a similar position? Are these loans hard to get? I know they're credit based. And which banks are best?

Thanks.

If you apply for finacial aid and it is granted by the new institution, then the Department of Ed will defer your loans. Sometimes they will do it before you request it, but you need to check to be sure. Sallie Mae give loans at good rates, and it is credit based to a certain extent. They make ask for a cosigner if your credit is shaky.

I am so glad to hear there are others who are in the same financial crunch as I am AND those who are completely changing fields. I quit my corporate marketing job so I could move closer to friends (for support) and to gain residency in a state where I could AFFORD to go to nursing school.

I'm just not sure if I should:

(1)get my LPN first to help pay my way through RN school

(2) try to work full time and go to school part time

(3) or if I should just borrow even more than I did for my last BA and hope that a hospital will pay off the loans.

This is pretty scary business all around. I definitely want to get my RN but the financial side scares me!

Were you abole to get loans for your second BS ?
