Pay without benefits in WV?

Does anyone know what the hourly pay would be in WV if you decline the medical benefits? I only ask this because me and my wife with will be graduating in May and we were told one of us should take the benefits and the other the money. Any help would be appreciated!

I would suggest you call each and every facility you are interested in working and see what they tell you. My guess would be between 32-36/hr w/o differentials, but that is only a guess.

The nurse recruiter should be a good source of info on all types of benefits for the facility. If no recruiter, then HR. Good luck.

Generally you will make up to a few more dollars on the hour, maybe a bit less. Those 32-36 an hour jobs likely wont be an option for you guys at this point. First they are generally available to those only working weekends and second they require you to have more experience.

While not paying for medical benefits may indeed save you some money, you guys should also look at the potential loss of retirement income. If no benefits your employer may not match 401 k funds. Also options like short term and long term disability may not be available to you on your spouse's insurance.

Some people can come out ahead. Generally if one has a stable job and insurance another can find a weekender prn job making 36 an hour and do really well but at this point in your career experience will likely be more important than money.

I tried for that, too, right out of school. No one wanted me "per diem" because of the lack of experience. So i am working for a year with benefits i don't need to get the experience--then i'll try again.

(different hospitals call it by different names, so be sure you are using and hearing the same thing).

And, i found $32-$36/hr to be the usual amt.

401K: my hospital matches my 6% of pay with 5%, so i would be losing 5% to gain 60%.:plsebeg:
