Pay scale for new grad in central Ky????

U.S.A. Kentucky

Published

I will graduate in May 2006 (fingers crossed). Can anyone please give me a ballpark figure for a new RN? I live in central KY so about an hour/hour & 1/2 from L-ville, Lexington, & B-Green. I have been offered a job (during clinicals at Central State) but I want to gain experience on a Med-Surg floor first. Thanks for any info.

Specializes in Flight, ER, Transport, ICU/Critical Care.

Kentucky $$$$.

It is a supply and demand thing! Wow, economics is not a required nursing course, but maybe...

New Grad Rates-

Highest in Louisville metro and Cincinnati areas. Lower, in Central Kentucky - maybe not Lexington proper - but from Frankfort toward Morehead and Georgetown toward London are most likely going to be a bit low compared to other "markets". Actually, some are quite low as they "draw" from several schools of nursing and as one HR person put it to me "We really never have a shortage". You can find extremes anywhere. So from $13 to $20 is the "range" for new nurses.

I do encourage you to keep an eye on the "big picture".

1. A commute does change things - If you spend 1 1/2 hours a day on the commute and $12 daily on gas - it adds up! And takes away from the bottom line.

2. Likewise, do the benefits make a lower rate worthwhile? - Great insurance, paid time off, educational assistance and other perks do add up!

3. A great place to practice can mean more than money. Do you like the facility (big vs. small, department specific)? Do you like the people? Can they offer you the support you are going to need in your first year? Chances for speciality training and advancement?

MONEY ISN'T EVERYTHING! No matter what you make, there will be times that you think -

"It ain't enough". And you'll be right. Sometimes its not.

Nursing can be a great job, with lots of variety - but, it's pretty tough too!

Choose wisely! Ask about orientation programs, ask about "job shadowing" - talk it over those you trust. Take your time. Research it out. It's an important decision - put the necessary work in it and you should get a great reward! Good Luck!

Hi just wanted to add my two cents .... I am currently still in school ( graduate june 06 ) and have been offered a job at a major hospital in cincinnati. the pay there is 19.60 and hour with 3 dollars shift diff for nights . so i will be in the area of 24.00 an hour for 3 12 hour shifts a week
