Hi,
Sorry if this is in the wrong place, this is my first post so I apologize.
Anyway, I am looking into starting nursing school and was wondering if there were any thoughts/ideas on where in the country (maybe specific cities?) the pay rate would be the best that would also offer good opportunieis for new grads? I have read that Seattle has very low pay, and that some areas in California are full of nurses...
any input is appreciated!

In St Louis, average new grad pay is 20.00/hr +nights/weekends. The cost of living is significantly lower than NY.

I work for Mayo Clinic Hospital in Arizona. With two years experience I make 28.00/hr on day shift. Add an extra 6.50/hr for nights. Decent, yes. Not enough to buy a home in this area. Cost of living is high. I am able to pay bills, vacation yearly, but not much more than that, i.e. savings. But, then again, that's way better off than most of the country!!

There are lots of threads regarding nursing salaries.... run an Allnurses site search, and you'll find what you're looking for.
CA is always needing nurses. The state of Massachusetts has MORE nurses than the state of California. Think about the size difference.
Check out http://www.salary.com for pay/various locations.

This site is good too:

I think you have to fill out your email address, then they send you an additional link. You can put in job title (RN, NP, or anything else) and then select a state and it will give you the average salary, benefits, cost of living.
