Pay raise request transferring to more critical care area

Wondering what the consensus is on asking for a raise when transferring from med/surg to ER. Assoc RN with 10 + yrs exp, 3 of those in ER previously, all in same facility. Was charge in ER when left on medical leave, gone over a yr then started back at same hospital on the floor as no ER spots open. After 1 yr back at same hospital now ER position opened and transferring back. Thoughts?

Are you asking for a raise based on the fact that you've been there another year or because you think you should be paid more as an ED nurse?

Based on fact that it's the ED, which is more critical care than the floor and since I have experience there.

Does your hospital normally pay a differential for critical care?

Good question. Fairly certain but insure of amount. I'll guess I'd have to check with our recruiter or HR. Just wasn't sure how much more to ask for since I have prior experience in this specific hospital/department.

If it does, I would be gobsmacked. In my nearly 25 years experience, in multiple systems, I have never seen any unit based differential.

Best wishes.

Yeah, me either. Even when I was doing flight I got paid the same as everybody else.
