Hey all -
I am relocating to the islands and have had interviews at both HPH and QMC. I already have Hawaii licensure.
When I look online for pay there is a large range that I have found. The Queens website doesn't show their pay but some have said it's around 50/hr.
I'm trying to have a bit of knowledge about the pay rates before I get an offer. Also - I know HPH doesn't offer relocation assistance.... does QMC?
I have 11 years total nursing experience - 6 years as a CNA, 4 as a LPN and 15 months as a RN with a BSN. Graduated Magna Cum Laude. ACLS.
Thanks!

I don't know about HPH, but Queen's will probably consider you a new grad. I interviewed there a few weeks ago and the HR manager explained nurses with less than 24 months of floor experience in the role of RN are still new grads. Starting pay in that bracket is 48.00/hour. I can't remember whether or not she said you can have time served grandfathered in. Pay after the 24 month mark was 52-54 an hour I believe.
As for relocation allowance, I would be surprised if they offered it. There are so many nurses here that can't find jobs (after three months I'm starting to apply for traveler/agency positions)- it doesn't make sense why they would pay someone extra to move here. Frustrating market.
The table ICU man posted is old (from 2005 I think). Good luck.

Just wanted to mention that I know Queen's does offer a relocation bonus if you sign the 18 month contract. Not sure about HPH.

Which hospital did you end up choosing? Have you started yet
I accepted a position at QMC - they did offer the relocation as well as 30 days of housing. Pay is quite good, as well. Excited to start.
That's amazing! HPH did not offer anything for relocation. The pay is around 48$/hr, base. I'm definitely going to consider Queens now, before making such a big move. Thanks for updating!
Here is the bit... the HR rep at HPH (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME - PLEASE DO NOT POST NAMES OF THOSE IN YOUR PROGRAM PER TOS) was effusively polite and pleasant. After I passed the competency exams she called me and let me know she forwarded my information to the hiring manager. Before she did this she made a point to say that HPH does not offer any relocation or housing assistance for new employees. After I had interviewed at QMC I got a few calls from managers. Told them I had accepted another facility's offer.
Don't give up on QMC... so far I have been very impressed. I arrive on island on Thursday and start on 3/2.

Thanks again for the info! I'll definitely keep my eye on QMC. I wonder if I mention to HPC that another facility offers relocation, they may offer something? Do you mind telling me what the assurance actually was? The main cost I'm concerned about is shipping my car. Good luck with your move and Mahalo!
Assistance, not assurance! í ½í¹†
Congrats. What area are you going to be working in?
Just want to throw in my 2 cents. Consider the possibility of not liking the workplace/work environment and you being locked in to a 18 month contract just because QMC offers a relocation bonus and HPH does not. I am in that unfortunate position right now and at this point, giving back the money is disappointing and a bit of a hardship but if that's what it takes to get out of my contract, then that's how it will have to be. It's very difficult to make such a big move to the islands when you don't know the reputation of each hospital system. But, be weary of QMC is all I'm saying.
