Pay Per Visit/ Salary Question

I have been offered a part time HH job. I said I was available 3 days per week, up to 24 hours, the specific days being flexible. The pay for PT/PRN is 40.00 per visit and 80.00 per OASIS visit. As I'm new to HH, not sure how this will translate as far as actual pay. I did hospice, but it was salaried, and the visits were about an hour each. Obviously, OASIS visits will be longer, but on average, how long does a HH visit take, and how many do you typically do in an average day? Just trying to get an idea of how much I'll actually be making and make sure we'll be able to afford it. The manager that interviewed me said I could be PRN and they just call me when they need me, or PT and actually be assigned a small load to manage. Which would be better from a financial point? She wasn't real specific, only saying "The potential is there to make good money if you don't require the full time benefits". Sounds good, but I've been in nursing long enough to know what sounds good at an interview and what actually transpires are often 2 completely different things.

$80 for an OASIS is high end where I'm at. $65/$40 is the going rate here. Do you get mileage reimbursement too? Most per visit nurses don't make a ton of money. Salaried do better. When I was salaried, my days were full with 6 visits. When I went casual, I started getting on average around 3. A rare day it was when I got a full 6 or equivalent in OASIS opens. I think I had one in the last 3 months. There were cancellations too, just as there are in any casual employment.

we are all paid "per visit", either PRN or FT, only difference is that FT/PT are guarranteed the visits and are benefit eligible,,,PRN can get canceled at any time,,,average is 6 visits a day and most count an admission as 2....i would do the PT position as i prefer to know what i a doing vs waiting for the FT staff to figure out which patients they need help with,,,JMO

Yes, they pay mileage reimbursement too. I'm not that interested in making tons of money, as I'm working agency right now 2-3 days a week, and that is all I need. But it's so unpredictable, am I'm getting stuck with all the 3-11 shifts, which isn't working with my children. I'm hoping the HH can supplement the time I get with the agency. Don't need to get rich :wink2:, but do need to put food in the refrigerator.

I work for an agency where I am per visit, six visits or equiv per day average. I do not have to take call. Starts are $60, reg visits (30 min to 1 hour) are $30. I have 3 school age children, so the flexibility works well for me. When I am finished I go home, if I want to do more visits in a day(my agency covers 2 counties), I can either pick up extra for the week, or have a short day later. For working mothers, home health can be a great option.

Don't discount doing shift work. You can work anywhere from four to sixteen hour shifts on a regular or PRN basis, however best suits your circumstances. This way you will have more of a set schedule and can plan on so much work per week. You can arrange these days, hours any way you want. Two 8 hour shifts a week might be all you need to give you the extra income you need. To me that sounds better than waiting for a phone call to go do an admit this afternoon or tomorrow morning. The phone call might not come, or you might set something up, only for a cancellation to occur. Too many ifs. Just a thought to consider.
