Hello all,:welcome:
I am currently in an RN bridge program and expected (by the grace of od) to graduate in May. I am disappointed in the starting wage for new graduate RN pay. I cant believe they are only starting out at 19-20 dollars an hour. I was making 20.65 base pay as an LPN. I am currently living in Independence MO. I had several questions and was hoping for some advice and information: what is the starting out wage in the surrounding hospitals in MO? I would love to work in the ICU. What hospitals accept new graduate nurses into the ICU and provide excellent orientation? I am surprised that many of the hospitals do not have an tuition forgiveness opportunity's . Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Anyone with advice on what hospitals are new graduate friendly would be great to!!!!

i agree with you--some of the salary prospects as well as the lack of other titillating perks around here are severely lacking.
i have a friend who works at centerpointe--she and i finished the nau adn program last year--and she started at approx 21$/hr. and that was going straight to icu on nights. she hated it and then transfered to pacu where no one ever leaves, apparently, and she is pretty happy there.
other than that, i don't know much about salaries in the icus.
hopefully some local members can clue us in.
yeah I have been amazed at the pay and the lack of incentives.... I have a friend who also graduated from NAU and went to centerpoint to nights and hated it so she ended up in PACU and loves it I wonder if we are talking about the same person? PM me I would be interested to see if we know the same person

Working overnights and weekends you get more....I have a friend who worked overnight weekends and made a VERY good salary!!! Its a sacrafice, but thats where the money is!

In KC I am making 20.50/hr as a new GN. It goes up (will be around 24.50) after I pass the NCLEX and w/ my differential for working nights. GL!

I work for a big hospital in STL, and new GN base rate is in the neighborhood of $19.50/hour. This is base rate, non-inclusive of shift differentials, BSN pay, or anything else.
They do offer modest increases for years served as a PCT/EMT/Whatever, and as of this month, a BSN will earn you an extra $.80 per hour.
I have heard scattered reports of new GNs negotiating slightly higher base rates on a case-by-case basis, but can't offer any concrete info on what tactics to follow regarding this.
PS Everyone I know who took a grad job at Centerpointe has been overworked and hates it. Generally they are getting a pretty bad rep!
