Pay for graduate nurses in your area?

Nurses New Nurse

Do you know what they pay graduate nurses in your area? At the hospital where I am going to school pays graduate nurses the same as a start nurse. $19.57.

I'm not sure if this is common practice to start GN's off the same as a nurse who has sat/passed the boards.

Specializes in OR.

In the Nashville area, its usually around 18.50-19.20 or so. And I hear it goes up after your first year. Even if you've passed your NCLEX, I dont THINK it will go up until you've had a year or so in. I could be wrong but thats what I hear.

There are 4 hospitals in my area and they range from $19.60-20.63/hr to start off. I am not really sure how long you are there before you get a raise. I do know that you get shift differentials of $.75-$1.00 or more. I think the weekend shift is $33.00-36.00 an hour, and time and half for on call. I am not positive about the exact amounts as there are 4 hospitals, so I am sure their all a little different....I am in Northern West Virginia

Specializes in RN, BSN, CHDN.

I think in my area the pay is around $26 but life is expensive in Phoenix
